Metellus a holdout?

For better or worse, I think the team is ready to give his role to Theo Jackson, whose AAV is $3M. Whether that was a good move or not remains to be seen.

I'll give em one Bynum for Fries/Kelly.

I believe someone REALLY liked the idea of adding a S in this past draft. Mettelus being in the last year of his deal was one of a myriad of reasons to do so.

That mfer is kinda looking astute at this juncture.

That being said, I’ve got little doubt that his extension gets done.

shoring up that other IOL spot in front of our rookieish QB was more important IMO that replacing Bynum.  A deep S is an easier bill to fill than apparently a quality OG.  honestly that deep S is essentially a corner that is a step slow or stiff hipped.  Hitmans role will be much harder to fill,  but thats a story for another day,  if you are going to go all in with a young QB, you better have your resources focused on keeping him clean in the pocket.... not to mention being able to generate offense on the ground.

Hopefully, the FO works their cap magic, we keep him around, and this is barely a ripple in the offseason pond.

The truth is always that we can't keep everyone, every time, and we've got a lot of heavy money in talent already. I hope we can keep him, but in KAM/KOC I trust.
Wishing a great season for the team, Especially Mundt and Kwenkeu! Big Grin

Valid points.

If it was just replacing Bynum it’s a non issue. But, it’s Bynum, Hitman, and possibly Mettelus. And if Jackson doesn’t pan out? Yikes. That’s a world of hurt and with a $52 million dollar cap hole next year.

As Supa likes to point out, our D is pretty complex. Having a rookie in place now would have been a huge help. I love the Jackson pick, but a S and a guy like Monheim would look pretty good to me.

I would assume it is less of a hold out and more of just waiting until the deal gets done. He isn't missing much IMO, not like if Jefferson was missing time with his new QB.

This. No player is really missing much at OTAs unless they are rookies or new to the team.
