Davante Adams reportedly wants to reunite with Aaron Rodgers as a member of the New York Jets, but he is not against playing for other teams.
NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reported Thursday the Las Vegas Raiders wide receiver "wants to play" for the Jets "after informing the team on Monday he prefers to be traded." However, he hasn't "demanded" to be moved to New York and would instead be open to playing with multiple other teams if he is traded.
Rapoport listed the New Orleans Saints, Pittsburgh Steelers, Baltimore Ravens, Buffalo Bills, Dallas Cowboys and San Francisco 49ers as other possible landing spots.
This is not the first time the veteran wide receiver has been connected to the Jets.
On Wednesday, Dianna Russini of The Athletic reported many around the league believe the AFC East team will be his ultimate destination. ESPN's Adam Schefter listed the Jets and Saints as teams on Adams' wishlist because he wants to play with a familiar quarterback, while Albert Breer of The MMQB reported other teams believe "the Raiders star is focused on engineering a trade" to New York.
That doesn't mean a deal is imminent.
Adams missed the Raiders' Week 4 game against the Cleveland Browns because of a hamstring injury, and the Jets and other teams surely want to see if he is healthy before giving up significant value.
And the wide receiver would likely have to facilitate a move by reworking his contract, which is set to pay him $35.6 million in base salary in 2025 and 2026.
Rapoport reported "no trade is expected at least until next week at the earliest," which means New York and other teams will have more time to potentially negotiate or discuss strategies when it comes to trading for the six-time Pro Bowler.
But the Jets remain an intriguing possibility, as Adams and Rodgers already have established chemistry after playing together on the Green Bay Packers for eight seasons from 2014 through 2021.
Adams posted career-high totals in touchdown catches with 18 in 2020 and receiving yards with 1,553 in 2021 while playing with Rodgers and would give the Jets another go-to option in an offense that already includes Garrett Wilson and Breece Hall.
Opposing defenses would have to pick their poison with that much firepower on the field, which would further solidify New York as a Super Bowl contender.
