Wish a lot of you could have seen the defenses of the the late '60's to mid '70's, they were amazing.
Just going from memory (at my age that is risky) I believe they had one year where they gave up fewer than 10 points per game.

I did see them in person though I was pretty young at the time. Game was very different in those days. Rule changes in 78 started to open up the passing game more. The game now is pass happy in part because CTE has caused them to legislate a lot of violence which benefited defense out of the game.

1971 team gave up 9.9 points a game and never allowed 20 points in a game. The same year Alan Page won the MVP.
Eagles. A little surprised the 49ers are in this conversation. Great defense. Maybe the best in the NFL. But Jimmy G is still their QB, and while he played well last week, he's horribly inconsistent. He will lose a lot of games for them. In fact, just the week before he was awful in an ugly loss against the Broncos.

Agreed about the 49ers. Eagles are the obvious cream of the NFC right now.

Offense sells tickets, but defense wins Championships... ever heard of that? B)

No doubt the 49ers have what looks like one of the best defense in the NFL this year. Right now I'd have it ranked 49ers, Bills, Cowboys as the top 3. However, the Eagles defense is right behind those 3 and has been a big reason Philly is undefeated at this point.
I'd say the Eagles are the top team in the NFC right now because they have a top 10 offense AND top 10 defense. The 49ers are too one dimensional... If their run game isn't going and Deebo isn't doing Deebo things (or he's hurt), that offense is very very average.
This could all change a month from now when we hit the mid point of the season.

Seems like I've seen that written somewhere on subway walls...and tenement halls.
Jimmy G isn't a total crap QB, and has played in NFC title games and a SB before. The way the 9ers handled the SB champs last week made me a believer. I agree the Eagles are right there at the top too, but I'd give the 9ers the edge only because the way they play D.
