Since I didnt see the end of the game, what's with playing him one drive then brining mannion back in? Another head scratching move
Supposedly he was injured. But that didn't make sense. You wouldn't put him back in. I read that Mannion had a hand cramp. I was like from what, it's not like he threw a lot. I don't know whatever, it was bizarre.
Lolz OH. It took a hand cramp for him to get in, interesting. Needed a good laugh on the matter

Lets not forget Mond was pretty raw for an NFL QB...We all knew he was going to need at least a year to curate. Maybe 2 or 3.

Mannion does suck, but that doesnt mean the right thing to do was put the kid out there on a SNF national game against one of the top 3 teams in the NFL on the road in 20 below weather.

IMO that would have been more damaging to the kid than not playing him.

I dont get the hair-pulling over this at all.

Here's the thing - from a scouting perspective Mond wasn't raw at all.  He was supposed to be more pro ready:  4 year starter in SEC with over 40 starts, beat Bama.  Big program in Texas playing in the best conference.

Then you have Davis Mills, only 11 career starts in the PAC-12.  That dude was RAW.  Total unknown.  Taken one spot later.

One guy started half a season, one guy played 1 series.

It's head scratching to me.

Wyatt Davis, playing for a big-time program like Ohio State.  2-time All American.

I mean WTF???  These guys played at a very high level at some of the best programs in college and suddenly regress at the NFL level where they can't be coached up into competing for backup spots????

Either scouts are God awful or coaches can't develop players.  It's nuts

That comment alone should have been a firing offense.  He deliberately started a QB that he knew can't play, waited until the game was totally lost to put in the rookie, then pissed on him to reporters.

As James Mason said in North by Northwest,

"This matter is best disposed of from a great height, over water."

In hopes of getting Mannion his second career TD? Confused

Purportedly Mannion's hands were cramping but lets deconstruct the decision.

  • You put Mond in with the game out of reach.  According to the coaches, Mannion started because he gave the Vikings the greatest chance of winning -- obviously, that "reason" no longer applied at the time Mond entered the game.
  • Now, you take Mond out after a series because Mannion is now able to play again.  Now, we know the original reason no longer applies, so a secondary reason must apply -- and the only feasible explanation is you want to protect Mond from hurting his confidence.
  • However, if you wanted to protect Mond from hurting his confidence, why do you call 3 consecutive pass plays for Mond?  It could have been 3 consecutive run plays.
It really doesn't make sense (much like most of the season).

I don't think this is a super big issue.  Zimmer worded it poorly, absolutely, but there's not a lot of good ways of explaining that Mond is worse than Mannion.  I also don't really understand all the people that think this is the issue that should cause Zimmer to be fired.  Everyone knows Zimmer is getting fired.  Why clutch pearls at this point?  No point in finding all 45 molehills to make into mountains at this point. The way bigger issue, is how did we end up with Mannion as our backup QB this year.  Is there not anyone else out there that offered us a better chance?
