Ngakoue Traded- Wheels Officially Falling Off

Better to cut bait now and admit the mistake. They thought they had a good team, they don't. Let's get this going and turn it around in a couple years with a new QB. Get rid of some more players and make sure they draft top 3.
This.
I think when they traded for Ngakoue they thought Hunter would be out maybe a couple games, not the whole year. Then Barr went down, Odenigbo and Jaleel Johnson showed they're not really starters, the CB's got torched and Cousins imploded.  At which point Spielman decided he wasn't staying in cap hell to finish 4-12.

He's still in cap hell,  it will take a lot more cuts and trades to even sniff the floor of purgatory.

And somewhere, deep in a cave in Green Bay, there is joy...

For those complaining about the Yannick compensation...  let's review.

The Vikings...  coming off a playoff win in New Orleans and trip to the Divisional Round...  thought they would be a playoff team this season.  Giving up what was expected to be a late 2nd and a conditional 5th rounder wasn't much given Yannick's age and pedigree.

Fast forward to now...  injuries have completely derailed the defense and Cousins turned into a pumpkin.  Our OGs look like poo...  and we're 1-5.

You think Yannick wants to stick around here for a rebuild?  He wanted out of Jacksonville because he was tired of losing.  The chances we would be able to sign him long-term coming off what looks to be a bad season are slim to none.

I'm not applauding the Vikings for trading him, but it was smart to get something back for a guy we probably couldn't convince to re-sign with the team.  Yeah, it sucks we are giving up what looks to be an early 2nd for a late 3rd, but the Vikings weren't expecting the team to be 1-5. I don't think any of us fans were either.

Bitter pill to swallow, but at least the Vikings are finally realizing this is a lost season and making moves to help rebuild this team this off-season and next.  Please 11 lb 12 oz baby Jesus let Kirk be the next guy getting traded...  Lol

2020 is always hindsight: we should've done this; we should've done that. If the Vikings had known Hunter and Barr would be out for the year, they obviously would not have traded for Yannick.

Just the fact that you put a guy back on the market lowers his value. The Vikings were lucky to get the 3rd.

is anybody honestly surprised that the Vikings are struggling this year?  with as many young players and new starters as we are using is it surprising in the year of no offseason work out programs that our team is having troubles?  I am not the least surprised and that was before Pierce opted out and Barr was lost for the season.  (has it really been a loss?)  anyway,  the Ngokoue deal made little sense at the time and now that they have opted to move him IMO it makes even less sense.

I'm not surprised: their 10 wins in 2019 were against 9 teams with losing records and the 9-7 Eagles. The "good years" in Zimmer's time have alternated because they get a good record when their opponents are weak, then they get a tougher schedule the following season and wins go down. But their play style looked outdated last year,  and after the season they started shedding players, because cap costs and aging players meant their "window" has ended.
The mystery, as it relates to Ngakoue, is: why is Spielman surprised the Vikings are struggling? Because trading for Ngakoue, a player on a one-year deal, is the move of a team that is "one player away", so he must have thought we were still a relevant team.

Spielman seems clueless outside of some ok drafting at times and his usual wheeling and dealing.  He might swing a trade for Trevor, but what would Zimmer do with him and how would he fare behind this pathetic oline that always plays second fiddle to some db project draftee?
