Why Did The Eagles Try The Fake Field Goal (& The Vikings Suckered Them)
#1
Go to the 12th video down.  If you cannot see it, let me know and I will explain.
Note: You can also get to this vide by going to Frozen Memories tweets where Troy Williamson is fumbling.  Click on "Vikings" and then go to the second video.

I thought this was really interesting -- not just the fake FG but the other plays.  I highly recommend it.

This is good stuff.  Shows why things happened and not just watching replays.

That's interesting...  I wonder if that was something situational that the Vikings accounted for?  Give them that look because the Vikings coaches were anticipating a fake FG at that exact moment?  It sure looks that way with our "overload" FG block formation, but then Waynes, Harris, and Linval (?) drop back to protect against a fake FG.

Thanks for sharing.  A couple thought on those video breakdowns.  First TD to Diggs was a result of being able to run the ball.  Some don't like us being so run heavy, but it certainly opens things up for the passing when safeties creep up in run support.
Second TD to Diggs, the CB obviously was expecting help.  But watch the safety double Thielen.  Thielen is obviously who they were keying on and intent on stopping.
The bottom like on both, kudos to Stephanski for great play calls.

Yes, perhaps as the OP suggests, drawing them into this.  Or that studying the Eagles, we had a good indication that they would go for a fake here.  Analytics or whatever, this was an ideal situation for a fake.  down big, needing more than a FG, close to the endzone and not much time for our offense to drive if it fails.

The Vikings reacted perfectly to the fake field goal which makes me wonder what was the cue that the Eagles were going to try.  If the Vikings had of reacted and the Eagles kicked, it would have tipped everyone off as to the "trap" the Vikings were setting for teams.
I am wondering if there was "a tell" that the Vikings picked up on.  That would give them to advance warning to react properly.
I suspect there is a little more to this cat and mouse game played out.

O Johnson has greater separation than Diggs.   Both WR were open. Great call.

IMO Maalouf had them coached up and prepared.

Add the 2 50 yard TD strikes and I'd say the Maalouf/Kubiak and Co influences are  starting to show up.
