Might want to reconsider that Simmons pick:

On the other hand his sister looks like she’d give Joseph a run for his money.

I noted the incident in the explanation. It isn't a good look but there is more to the story than what is shown on video since most teams have him on their boards unlike Joe Mixon or other past incidents.

Yeah, teams have known about this for two years. It's already baked into his value. You take that away I think he's a top 10 pick, even with the injury. There are some elements of this story that make it a little blurry. He was defending his sister at the time. And virtually everyone at MSU raves about his character. I'd have a tough time taking him at 18, but ONLY because of our OL needs. At 50, if he somehow gets that far, it's larceny.

Looks like one of our family reunions!
In defense of your sister, who needed no help, wouldn't justify a man punching a woman who is laying on the ground.
It will surprise me if the Vikings draft him, but they have taken chances before.

The kid has been exemplary since he entered MSU. Made the honor roll his first two years.  Did a lot of community work on his own.

When people like the coach and AD stick up for the kid when they could lose their jobs it says more than people who bring up crap pre-draft like the young man is a lost cause.  I hate that kind of crap.
If Mike Vick can play in the NFL after what he did then this kid can play in the NFL too.

Can't help but wonder if this was his only time.  He looked pretty natural at it.

I'd just as soon they not draft him.

Agreed. There are understandable "youthful trangressions" that one can chalk up as immaturaty. But a HUGE male repeatedly pummeling a female, who is lying on the ground attempting to cover up (NOT ATTACKING) just is NOT one of those, OOPS my bad, incidents.

This wasn't cheating on a test, smoking weed, under age drinking, taking $1000 from a booster, or any other dozens of relatively victimless transgressions. This was, is and will always be criminal, violent behavior. I know, and my 21  year old son does as well, that it is NEVER acceptable to pummel a helpless female, REPEATEDLY,  on her head. This is not even a cultural debate. Its fucking common decency. Most people would be absolutely appaled if this asswipe was doing this to a dog and demand his incarceration, , but feel compelled to be PC in this instance.

IMO, pass on this guy, although I readily admit I could be wrong. Maybe he is now a wonderful human being, but I will have to see PROOF in the REAL WORLD, not in a controlled environment like a college campus. Doing THAT, at ANY age over 14-15, is unacceptable and inexcusable. PERIOD.

Vick actually went to jail for a number of years for what he did and shouldn’t have been back in the NFL.  This video speaks for itself.  Let someone else draft him.

This portion is actually an excellent take and exactly why NFL teams still worry about past incidents even if they were years ago. You never know how a young player will react to a  change in environment, financial circumstances, etc. Its basically trying to dig deep to figure out if this was a character issue or a stupid mistake. People can learn from stupid mistakes, its much tougher to change their character.

I don't know the young man but I am sure it was very emotional for him when he is defending his sister.  It was too much for sure.  He lost control.  No question.

Can it happen again?  Who knows?

All he has done since that incident is prove to people it is not who he is.  The counseling he attended, his school work, voluntary outside community work, and the way others speak about him (his coaches which some will dismiss as biased) are proof that he has put the incident behind him.

I cant cast any stones.  I'll let others judge the young man.  Forgiveness is a funny thing and there are some folks that wont forgive and if they do, they do not forget which is the essence of forgiveness IMHO.

I remember when Kevin Williams was arrested for domestic assault.  I wonder if many of the people here who don't want Simmons anywhere near the team would say the same thing about Williams who also had a DUI in 2003.

How about Jared Allen with 3 DUIs BEFORE the Vikings traded for him?

I suppose they get a pass for that stuff since they played fantastic and were good people too.

I like that you mocked him and think it would be an excellent pick!

As I said, everything he has done since the incident shows more about his character than that decision.  IMHO.
