We don't really know the details of the offer. A lot of details are hidden in the contract that never come out until after they sign it.

Good kickers are really not easy to get. That said long term deals with kickers are something teams rightfully shy away from. Good kickers can become bad instantly and the reasons aren't always apparent. They should always work on 1 year deals. That would keep them sharp.
Bell will get paid one way or another. He is much more then just a typical RB.

The contract the Steelers offered guaranteed him only $10M. The tag guarantees him $14.5. He was right to turn it down.

was that for this year or only guaranteed him 10 mill over the life of the new contract? I would be surprised if they tried to get him to take a true pay cut, but it would stand to reason that they would try and lower his number for this year if they were going to be guaranteeing him more over the new several years. the tag may get him 14.5 this year, but if he is injured thats the last 14.5 he may make. if he signs a longer term deal with 30 mill guaranteed but only 10 this year.. well he would be getting more over all and that IMO would make him stupid to not take in a game of violence and injuries. especially for a RB whos career window closes faster than any other position.

K Justin Tucker of the Ravens is the best kicker in the NFL, IMO. He's the closest thing to a gangster at the position. Mentally tougher than most of them combined. Signed as an UDFA by the Ravens out of Texas. Yet Minnesota drafted ANOTHER kicker in the 5th round.....will never understand it. Team gets burned with Walsh and do exactly the same thing.

there is something to be said though about identifying your guy and going and getting him. trusting in the undrafted free agent process does work out sometimes, but for every Justin Tucker there are 15 guys that nobody knows their names and you are stuck with what you have at best or possibly grabbing a kicker from the scrap heap after free agency is over. I have no issues with taking a kicker with a later round pick. Walsh was a good pick until his head went screwy, but his rookie year he was money and certainly looked like he was a well spent draft pick.

Le'Veon Bell - RB - Steelers

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports the Steelers offered Le'Veon Bell a five-year, $70 million contract prior to Monday's 4 PM ET deadline.
Per RapSheet, the offer contained more than $30 million over the first two years, but Bell has opted to instead play on the $14.544 million tag for the second straight year before hitting free agency at 27 years old next March. The $14 million average on the Steelers' offer would easily make Bell the league's highest-paid back, an honor held at the moment by Devonta Freeman at $8.25 million per year. It's hard to see Bell doing better than this next offseason, but we'll see.
