At the end of a 16-game marathon stood one final test for the Vikings’ straight-A defense. Trailing 23-10 with less than four minutes to play, Chicago’s desperation drive moved all the way to Minnesota’s 2-yard-line, where it set up for first-and-goal.
A touchdown and the Bears were back in it, reviving the potential for an upset that could cost the Vikings a precious first-round bye in the playoffs.
Minnesota needed a stop.
First-and-goal: Minnesota stuffs Jordan Howard for no gain.
Second-and-goal: Mitch Trubisky completes a pass to Michael Burton, who immediately is brought down in the left flat for no gain.
Third-and-goal: Trubisky’s pass to Tarik Cohen falls incomplete.
Fourth-and-goal: Trubisky completes a shovel pass to Cohen, who is swallowed up by Linval Joseph and Everson Griffen at the 1, completing the goal-line stand — and one of the more impressive regular seasons in franchise history.
