My daughter's 16U Club coach told me college recruiters have been telling the clubs and HS coaches to lay off the mind games and intensity because they are finding so many really good players who are burned out and no longer want to play to the point they are turning down scholarship money because they don't think its worth the effort.  Crazy.

i had a couple kids that came and skated on the weekends but did so on the sly,  one kid said screw basketball and played hockey ( his dad played LB for the Packers back in the late 70s)
Why isn't Chuck Foreman in the Hall of Fame?

I played pond hockey when I was a kid.   My best friend and neighbor's dad actually made an ice rink in their backyard!   It was awesome, had a heated garage so we could put our skates on in comfort, go out and play all day and then walk two houses down to go home.  Ironically that was done in December of 1976!   I went to their house to watch the Super Bowl we had 6 of us for a 3 on 3 hockey game after the game got over.   Vikings got down 19-0 at half and we all said screw it and went to the garage and laced on the skates.   Ended up hitting the ice with my chin going for a loose puck and ended up with nine stitches!   My mom called my Doctor and I sat watching the fourth quarter as Tark had got us to 19-7 and we were marching and then the int by Willie Hall on an overthrow to Robert Miller ended it.  My doctor was a huge Viking fan I told him I could wait until the game was over to come meet him. I had an ice pack wrapped in dish towel on my chin and after the Raiders scored to make it 26-7 the doctor called and said he would meet us at his office to put stitches in.   I didn't see the Willie Brown pick six or Bob Lee to Stu Voigt TD pass in the last seconds.   Was actually planning on playing HS hockey but in 1979 most schools in central Iowa discontinued the sport.   Not nearly enough sheets of ice for practices or games.
