The year of the DT. So many to choose from that year. I liked DeWayne Robertson a lot, others were into Johnathan Sullivan, and for the size obsessed, there was Jimmy Kennedy. The morning of that draft, I posted "Don't forget about Kevin Williams" because he was getting a lot of late buzz.

According to reports, the Vikings were indeed targeting Kevin Williams, but Red McCombs wanted the Vikings to take him a couple spots lower to save money. So the Vikings had a trade down from 7 to 10 agreed to with the Ravens, but for whatever reason, and unbeknownst to the Vikings, it was never signed off on by the NFL.

Shocked to find themselves on the clock, the Vikings let two picks go by before taking Kevin Williams at 9. Very embarrassing to the organization but it was the NFL's fault, not the Vikings'. Either way, the Vikings got the last laugh. Kevin Williams became a 5X 1st team All Pro and was far better than either of the two picks at 7 or 8.

I remember that whole debacle pissed me off and the cherry on top was not taking Terrell Suggs, who went one pick later to Baltimore. Turned out we couldn't have gone wrong either way as both players should be in the Hall of Fame and had great careers
