Its pretty simple and straight forward IMO....

I still contend that unless we are bringing in a big time bona-fide quarterback, like a Joe Burrow, then why wouldn't you go back to McCarthy as your starter? I'm not making a move for a lateral type quarterback that's a fringe starter not likely capable of post season success. Ditto on Wentz. Bring him back as the primary backup. KOC really put him in a shitty position trotting him out there and continuing to call throws, but he's a high end veteran with a year in the system under his belt. He's exactly what you'd want as the backup to McCarthy. If they want to roll the dice on a late round draft pick to challenge Brosmer for the 3rd spot, have at it, but otherwise running it back is probably the best idea.

I think we can do better then Wentz at back-up....I hope so anyhow.

I wouldnt be opposed to running it back with JJ, we need clarity on the position with him - once and for all.

Shame we dont have it yet.

Bingo. Aim higher (Burrow, Jackson, Hurts, Herbert) or aim lower and name McCarthy the starter. If we end up with a Mac Jones-level of QB2 that's okay, but he should be THE QB2. Some kind of open competition between a C level QB with A level potential (JJM) and a C+ level QB with B- potential is the last thing I wanna see.

Just a complete hunch, but based on the way KOC talked about him and his needing to work on his mechanics when he was coming back from injury and also the jab he made about how he ran into the end zone, I feel as though he has been frustrated with him. Just based on his injury history, I fully expect them to be very aggressive in getting a very competent backup and would not be surprised if they make it an open completion.

So what happens when Flores makes him look foolish?

I think Wentz is the kind of quarterback you'd likely get in free agency though anyways, so why not just stick with Wentz who showed he can be effective in this offense, win games, and has a year under his belt in a well known complex offense system? He's also not going to cost any draft compensation to acquire. I'd re-sign Wentz all day long before I gave up a draft pick for Mac Jones.

And what JJM has going for him is something MB hit on, he's dynamic. Not every QB has that in him. So he's still a very interesting piece of clay for KOC. But he's got to improve, just like any other young QB....it seems he's trending in that way. Should be an interesting time from January to August in Vikingland.

Williams took a ton of sacks and played pretty inconsistent his rookie year.  He's still taking bad sacks, but he's gotten better as a passer as the season has went on.  Still reminds me of Kyler Murray, we'll see if he has lasting power.

Nix started terribly his rookie year and then played very well in the second half of his rookie year. His stats get padded by a ton of short passes and he has an inconsistent deep ball yet.  Denver's defense is the main reason they have been a playoff team the past two years, helps Nix out too.

Maye and Penix were both up and down their rookie years.  Maye is playing some great football against an easy schedule.  I think Maye has looked the cleanest this year of the 2024 QB class.

We saw a couple great games from JJ McCarthy, a couple bad games, and a few average-ish ones where he showed some clutch factor (both Chicago games).  Jury is still out... but other than the injuries, we saw a great ceiling and enough clutch throws to feel like JJ McCarthy could be next year's version of Drake Maye.  Just needs more reps and to stay on the field.

Well said. Some perspective.

The Vikings can do that...all it takes is a lot of money.  We'll just ignore all the other positions were having problems with and get that high dollar quarterback.  It's just not that easy as it sounds.
