I think the kind of receiver we add depends on the severity of Nailor's injury. And they're being very cryptic about that.

Fair thought, makes sense. But blockbuster to replace WR3? Doubtful....and I know to some people the term blockbuster is subjective.

Alec Pierce

I could see this scenario play out. Addison becomes a team option FA at the end of 2026 which means his contract likely gets negotiated after the season. You let Addison and Pierce duke it out for the season and re-sign whichever receiver is your #2. I like Addison a lot but I'm wondering if his off field nonsense including now a suspension is giving the team some doubts. I also think that whoever plays opposite Jets is going to look good regardless of the talent.

"The Minnesota Vikings' receiving corps are in some danger at the moment with Justin Jefferson's hamstring injury and Jordan Addison's three-game suspension, but a trade with the Indianapolis Colts could solve their problems.

Bleacher Report's Alex Kay has proposed a deal in which the Vikings would land wide receiver Alec Pierce from the Colts in exchange for a fourth-round draft pick, which would represent one heck of a get for Minnesota.

"The Vikings fit the bill as a potential suitor for Pierce, given the squad is dealing with a three-week suspension to Jordan Addison and could be without Jalen Nailor while he nurses a hand injury," Kay wrote. "Pierce was a second-round pick in 2022 and still has plenty of potential, but the poor quarterback play in Indy has limited his contributions. A change of scenery could see him blossom as a tertiary option in Minnesota."

The 6-foot-3 Pierce was terrific in 2024, hauling in 37 receptions for 824 yards and seven touchdowns. That was good for a robust average of 22.3 yards per catch, which led the NFL.

So, why would Indianapolis trade him? Well, Pierce is preparing to enter the final year of his contract, and the Colts have a surplus of receivers that includes Michael Pittman Jr., Josh Downs and Adonai Mitchell. That could make Pierce expendable, especially with Indianapolis potentially headed toward a soft rebuild (at least as far as its quarterback situation is concerned).

The problem for the Vikings, though, is that they almost certainly wouldn't be able to re-sign Pierce next offseason. They've already paid Jefferson, and Addison becomes eligible for an extension following 2025. Nailor is slated to hit free agency next March, as well.

So does Minnesota feel it will be good enough to contend with J.J. McCarthy under center this year? Maybe if the right weapons are around him, and bringing Pierce into the fold could very well give the Vikings the most enviable group of skill position players in football."

Of course it comes down to comp, but overall?

There is a lot of smoke with a trade for Thielen. He would fit it pretty well, still have a little bit of gas in the tank and fill a whole until Addison can get back. Looks like a no brainer if we can make it work.

Oh without question. But he's 10 years younger, bigger, faster...he wouldn't come cheap, nor would he likely be happy going to a team where he'd be WR3 at best when Addison returns. 

It really sounds like it's Thielen. I'm mixed about that. Good story, and it will be fun to have him on the team again, but man, dude's 35 years old. The good news I think is that if Thielen's the guy it probably means than they don't expect Nailor to be out long.
