Players cannot lead with the crown of the helmet. That is the issue.
So that hit by Trevathan

Quote: @BrickVike said:It is a big issue, but what if he was leading with his shoulder for the guys torso and the player gets pushed back and down. Suddenly the head is the first to contact. Straight up, flying at a guy one on one head high is dirty. tackling a guy from behind that is engaged and struggling isn't. Too hard to line it up, you risk hitting your own guy and at that point most of the concern is getting the guy down.

I don't debate the crown of the helmet hit being a penalty at all.
I just kind of roll my eyes a bit at how many are saying the guy was down and it was cheap. He certainly wasn't down in my opinion; Adams spun out of a tackle heading towards the inside of the field. As fast as he was "stood up," he kinda churned his body sideways to break another tackle and got blasted. It's not as if he was stood up for seconds and then was hit. There are hundreds of similar wrap-up/bang type collisions all of the time. Dalvin Cook runs through them all of the time... I don't care if he gets suspended for the type of hit it was; just don't end up framing him as a no good, dirty player. I've seen Sherman blow up WRs that aren't even involved in plays - Burfict blow up RBs that aren't getting the ball "within 5 yards - stuff that's a lot more questionable than a bang/bang collision on a ball-carrier being taken to the ground. Even without the crown hit, Trevathan hits him with the shoulder pad, per say, I think with the momentum he had he still would hit him pretty hard.

Quote: @BlackMagic7 said:i agree with all you are saying. If there is a suspension it will be for the crown of the helmet hit. players need to keep their head up. Lead with the facemask or shoulder. For the record I dont think it was cheap or dirty. Just a case of bad fundamentals for todays NFL.

agree, it was bad fundamentals with his head down. Not arguing that. Just the whole dirty hit/suspension thing is a bit over the top. But it is a packer, so there is that.

2 game suspension handed down...I'm sure he'll appeal...

If it was a player on any other team in the NFL (well, except the Patriots that is) there wouldn't be near the "controversy." All of a sudden Travathan is some kind of horrible guy. It is BS. Seems pretty clear to me that it was not intentional. Seems fair to fine him as the resultant hit was leading with the head, but it would be ridiculous to suspend him, IMO.

Danny Trevathan - LB - BearsNFL suspended ILB Danny Trevathan two games for violating player safety rules.
The suspension stems from Trevathan's hit on Davante Adams Thursday night. This was fully expected given Trevathan made clear helmet-to-helmet contact. Trevathan is eligible to return in Week 7 against the Panthers. Source: Field Yates on Twitter

Eyes up, see what you hit. Players are taught that day 1 as a youth player.
