Its really a matter of how many tier 1 FA's you can sign this off-season. Yes, fewer with Darnold, but we aint in a food line FA wise with him either.

Good org's pivot when things change. Look at Reid, 49'rs, Broncos with Wilson, Rams with Warner and the list goes on...

And as MB points out, even a longer-term Darnold contract doesnt back us into a corner. If JJM is as good as we all think, we're in unchartered positive territory regarding the QB position and this franchise.

Like I said, KAM's step has a little more bounce these days and he's whistling happy tunes.

I do think they love him, but love Sam too.

I just ask the org for 2 things:

Make sure they are really sure about JJM
Get something in return for Darnold if they dont keep him

Maybe an asteroid strikes the planet and it's all rendered moot. Maybe we tag and trade Darnold and JJ just isn't what we thought he'd be. He has continuing knee issues or he just can't play to the level Darnold has this season. I mean we can do this all day.

which is why the tag option is the best of both worlds,  you get 1 more year of SD to see if he is for real,  you have a somewhat proven commodity in case JJ isnt worth a shit,  and you only set back your window for 1 year.

still have a bird in your hand, but this way if he shits in it... you can toss him away and maybe still have a bird in the other hand with very little lost.
