2. How many OL are reporting as eligible? one? two? three?....everyone but the center?
Ergo, ONE of their linemen shouldnt have been included in that...ahem... THREESOME
    Lions Coaching blew this

3. Player needs to make damn sure the official knows his number, not a “nod” or “hey, Im eligible.” State your number / not your position, and get a verification, say your number two or three times.
What was really suspicious is the Decker of the 3 looks to be the one who is clearly in the refs face and talking to him.  I was wondering if the other two, especially 70 who is running in late, were to serve as decoys for the Cowboys to think they were reporting as well. As you pointed out, Decker is the one who Goff directs to go report.  Agree with you, there was a timeout so no excuse for the ref to not make sure he had it right with 3 players clearly standing in front of him, what else did he think they walked over to him for.
exactly correct - I think the coaches WANTED that confusion, send two guys up - run in a third.
That was their plan all along. He mentioned that in his press conference. The eligible player (Decker) was already on the field. #70 running onto the field was just a decoy and smokescreen. He was instructed not to talk to the ref, just pretend.

Thats the core problem with that sequence. It seems the ref saw #70 running towards him and motioning his hands and assumed he was reporting and then announced him (#70) as the eligible player That is my guess.

After the game #70 said he never said a word to the ref but who knows at this point. The Lions could have cleaned this up after the wrong player was announced as eligible but they decided not to and got penalized.

Here is where this is just silly and stupid. The ref has to announce the eligible player to the defense so what is the point of the decoy when the ref has to announce the actual eligible player? I guess the plan all along was to fool the ref?

This foolish thought process I think also fed into their decision not to correct the ref…you know, the one guy who “confirms” if you are within the rules of the game.
Like I said, Dan Campbell needs to get serious.

Campbell was trying to be too cute and clever. It was dumb to keep going for it over and over again

Yep. Detroit was something like 0-6 on 4th down conversion attempts against GB on Thanksgiving too. When it’s working you’re a genius but he better be careful or he’ll be the next Brandon Staley in another year or so.

Thanks for the clarification - As I said, I didnt see or hear the actual game (why waste my time with Cowboys / Lions) but watched yotube replays and all the whining / crybaby posts. It is becoming more obvious that the coaching staff had planned this shell game.
