Some PFF grades for yesterday's game.
#1
I've been hoping for quite some time that the O-Line would start living up to its potential. Looks like we're finally starting to see it all come together.
https://epointperfect.com/the-vikings-top-offensive-performers-vs-bears-per-pff.html

On offense, these were the top performers per Pro Football Focus:
  1. Ezra Cleveland (90.0)
  2. Justin Jefferson (86.4)
  3. Christian Darrisaw (82.9)
  4. Dalvin Cook (75.3)
  5. Brian O’Neill (73.9)
Even in victory, “the bad” must be highlighted, so these were the worst performers on offense:

3. Adam Thielen (59.1)
2. K.J. Osborn (56.9)
1. Johnny Mundt (55.3)

But it was the offensive line that shined. Ezra Cleveland's 90.0 grade was tops on the team, while Christian Darrisaw (82.9), Brian O'Neill (73.9) and Garrett Bradbury (72.1) all had solid performances.
The only lineman who didn't grade well is rookie right guard Ed Ingram, whose 31.5 pass-blocking score weighed down his 78.0 run-blocking effort.

Defensively, Cam Dantzler, the hero who forced the fumble to seal the 29-22 win, led the Vikings with an 86.3 grade, including a 90.7 coverage score. That's on the heels of an 83.7 coverage grade against the Saints, so the third-year corner trending up.
Meanwhile, what looked like a possible breakout game for Danielle Hunter didn't pan out. He managed one sack but generated only two pressures on 40 snaps and had a 47.9 overall grade – second worst among the defensive starters (Cam Bynum was worst with a 30.2 grade). The star pass rusher was D.J. Wonnum, who racked up a sack and four hurries en route to a 77.0 defensive grade. That was third best on the defense. But Za'Darius Smith, despite a sack and a total of five pressure posted a 49.9 grade and had just one tackle all day.

Minnesota managed three sacks but only hit Chicago QB Justin Fields two other times all day, and the lack of pressure helped Fields go 12-of-13 in the second half and nearly lead the Bears to a come-from-behind upset.

PFF is whacky.  Come on, Osborn has a handful of good drive extending catches and key blocks and is somehow the 2nd worst player on the offense yesterday??

This scheme is not suiting the talent on defense.  I am sorry, I wanted to believe, but man, Kendricks, Hunter, and even the corners are not making an impact to the level of their physical and mental abilities.  It will come back to bite us in the ass, luckily we have the personnel to be more flexible with packages but when are we going to see it?

4 man front of: Wonnum-Phillips-Tomlinson- Hunter with Z, Kendricks, and Hicks couldn't perform worse than how the front 7 is doing in a 3-4 set

Transitioning plus our first two picks which were defensive studs not giving any production is slowing down this defense's capabilities to be impactful.  Hopefully it will hit as the season progresses.

Completely agree. “ the scheme is not suiting the talent on defense.”  It appears the scheme has neutralized Hunter, Z. Smith, Kendricks etc.  we see glimpses of individual effort (Danzler getting up and then stripping the ball from ISM) but not a coherent scheme. Granted that’s harder to see on a defense than an offense, but what I don’t see is suiting a scheme to our player’s strength.  I see shoehorning players into a scheme which ignores those strengths.

The Vikings' offensive line has been VERY good this season, by multiple measurements.

Per @PFF -- 14th in pass protection and 4th in run blocking.
Per ESPN -- 6th in pass block win rate and 7th in run block win rate.

If someone told us this in August, we'd have been giddy. And doing the griddy.

When your OL goes 1st rounder, 2nd, 1st, 2nd, 2nd, this is the kind of performance we have every right to expect.

Doesn't matter their draft order, that is the type of performance I expect anyway.

But it was fun watching the push these guys get.

Remember what Tice said last June:
“Whoever’s coaching that group should be drooling right now,” Tice said. “You got (Darrisaw). You got Ezra Cleveland. The right tackle Brian O’Neill’s not bad. This could potentially be a pretty good line...."
