Why no announcement on Hunter?

It’s weird. What to do with Danielle Hunter is one of the biggest questions the new GM and HC have to face.  To decide to pay the 18m is a significant decision. Now that the deadline has passed, not to make a statement regarding DH’s status seems really odd. Does this mean the situation is not fully resolved? If so, in what way? This new administration certainly has not proceeded in a way that would earn our confidence. Suggesting that they may bring back Sean Mannion? Absurd. Not restructuring Theilen, Smith etc in a timely way so they could participate in FA acquisitions? Stupid. Now this fumbling lack of clarity.  Maybe there is a strategy I’m just not seeing.  Maybe more will be revealed. I hope so.
i figured it was kind of implied that they paid him when there was no report of him getting traded or a big new deal announced.

I think the lack of clarity is the strategy of "Keep your cards close to your chest". This FO has been quiet all offseason and haven't had many leaks...this may be another situation while they take their time evaluating any additional options. A lot could happen on draft weekend

Right. I just wonder why they didn’t release a statement. He’s their premier defensive player and they just picked up his 18m option. Why no announcement?

I guess i didnt look at it that way,  it was already a contractual item,  not really an option,  just a bonus,  so I viewed as a bill that came due,  just like a game check.  the bill came due,  they paid it and away we go.

Yeah I just figured he got paid so there is that. Also he has been kind of whiny for all the injuries and missed playing time he had. He needs to prove that he is still durable. Hopefully he mellows out and gets on with it.

I also think the FO should have put something out on Hunter.  Basically, end any speculation and also put the ball squarely back on him to shut up and play or start to squeak and squawk.  The FO is honoring the contract and I would say as such.  IMO.

since they never said otherwise, or openly talked about shopping him or trying to get him to rework his deal,  is it really something they should have then come to the public with?  IMO its on all the twits that had to try and make click bait bank that should have put the story out since they were the ones that made his contract a story to begin with.

I doubt they have their relationship on stable ground considering they likely came to him about a rework that didnt pay him top dollar.

its understandable people need to take care of their business but it seems danielle is taking the position that since he was hurt on the job its the clubs duty to compensate him as agreed. i dont have a problem  with that but if he is truly threatening a holdout then that is a bitch move.

I see your point but even if there was zero twit/bait the last few weeks I would be out front if I were the new FO that we have committed to pay Hunter the 18million.....ball back on him.  18 million commitment is not nothing especially for a team with a tight CAP situation.

I think Bullazin might have a point....the FO might be chill on a presser because the relationship/timing might not be the best.
