Irv Smith meniscus surgery

Mike Zimmer said Irv Smith will have surgery on his meniscus injury he sustained vs. Kansas City by team doc Dr. Larsen. Doesn’t know how long he’ll be out for - was asked about two timetables: 4ish weeks or 6-8 months. Said he hasn’t heard 6-8 month timetable.

I wouldn't count on him for a minimum of at least 6-7 weeks, but more likely the whole season.

Every fucking year with this team, with this franchise it is something.  It is NEVER normal around here which is amazing because the ownership has been great for the last 15 years.

There is no doubt in my mind this team will get fucked over by unvaccinated players this season and a whole year of promise with a ton of talent will be a waste.

Year after year, feels like a cosmic sign to give up rooting for this team and watching this league.  Find a different hobby to enjoy that isn't an annual exercise in sadism & masochism

The St. Paul Pioneer Press' Chris Tomasson reports Vikings TE Tyler Conklin should return to practice this week.
Conklin has shed the wrapping on his injured hamstring and "all indications" point to the veteran resuming practice. His return will be a welcomed development for the Vikings, who will be without Irv Smith (meniscus surgery) to start the regular season. Conklin was on the field almost as much as Smith during the final weeks of the 2020 season thanks to the team's heavy usage of two tight end sets (though head coach Mike Zimmer said Monday that the Vikings might use more three-receiver sets with Smith sidelined). He caught 15 passes on 22 targets over the Vikings' final four games. He should be rostered in deep formats that inflate tight end scoring.

RE: How the Vikings will compensate for Irv Smith's expected multi-week absence, Zimmer said "all this will shake out after the cuts. We can’t jump ahead of anything right now." First order of business should be claims/waivers and then looking at veteran TEs they could trade for.

Mike Zimmer on how the Vikings, a team that uses a lot of multiple tight end formations, will manage without Irv Smith Jr.: "We may end up being a little more three wide."

So then the removal? We'll see I guess. When it comes to injuries, I trust Zimmer about as far as I can throw Michael Pierce. We should probably expect him to be out for the year. That way any shorter timetable will be glorious news.

TE Tyler Conklin (hamstring) has helmet back and appears to be doing some work. Good news as Irv Smith Jr. heads for knee surgery.

Still no Barr, Darrisaw, Mattison, Nwangwu, Metellus, Chisena, Samia.

WR Chad Beebe and S Luther Kirk not spotted.

Conk will have us covered until ISJ comes back.  I wish we knew what we had in Westbrook because 3 WR is going to be key now.

Darrisaw on the other hand, really hard to not be down on this kid and this situation.  How this injury situation wasn't evaluated before drafting him, I'll never know.

Couldn't we have swung a first for Zeus Jr and not had to worry about the $35 million tinman's backside?  Looks like another 1st round bust for Spielman.  Trade firsts for proven commodities and stop striking out (Kalil, Ponder, Floyd, Treadwell, Hughes, Gladney)

zeus jr also came with a much bigger cap price,  would have made the improvements we did make a lot less likely to have happened so we wouldnt be nearly as optimistic for this season without P2, or the other names we were able to bring in.  Also with covid once again pretty much killing the college player visits and shit,  hard to blame teams for not being able to do their diligence on a draft pick.
