It is difficult to imagine another team trading for Barr now because they would have to pay the remainder of his 2020 salary (9 weeks at $625,000 per week which is $5,625,000).
At the end of the season, if the Vikings trade him with a pre June 1st designation they would take a $7,800,000 mil dead money cap hit but would save $7,700,000 in cap space.
If he is traded with a post June 1st designation they would take a $5,200,000 mil dead money cap hit but would save $12,900,000 in cap space.
They would also have a $2,600,000 dead money cap hit in 2022.
Who would trade for him though? Who will have the cap space to absorb $12,900,000 in 2021, $13,000,000 in 2022, and $15,500,000 in 2023?
The Jets will have about 80M in cap space next year based on the 175M cap floor number. They wanted Barr in 2019 and have 4 linebackers that will be free agents too.
I wonder if they soured on Quinnen Williams enough and would trade him for Barr?
If not they could still trade for Barr.
