For the #Texans, releasing Hargreaves escapes the nearly $10M fifth-year option he’s on the books for in 2020 before it’s fully guaranteed.

Some transactions: The #Texans released CB Vernon Hargreaves, the former first rounder, and the #49ers have cut DT Ethan Westbrook.

Potential reclamation project for Zim.

  • Ravens released SS Tony Jefferson.Jefferson was due $11.6 million in 2020, but the Ravens will instead opt to swallow his $4.1 million in dead cap by releasing him to free agency in order to create some more cap space. Jefferson will need to prove to teams that he's healthy before signing a deal this offseason because he was placed on injured reserve in October of last season with ACL and other knee ligament damage. Jefferson will be entering his age-29 season.

  • ESPN Jets reporter Rich Cimini confirms the team is fully expected to release CB Trumaine Johnson.Signed to a five-year deal as the league's highest-paid corner prior to the 2018 campaign, Johnson has been a colossal bust for two separate coaching staffs. Cimini writes Johnson's time in New York "is over." Releasing Johnson, 30, would leave $12 million in dead money, clearing just $3 million against the cap. Johnson was benched for his poor play last season.
