Overthecap.com now has a nifty interactive tool to calculate every team's salary cap picture by cutting, trading, extending or restructuring current players, and then watch the cap number change in real time. You can also add free agents, though if you can add external FAs, I haven't yet figured it out. Anyway, maybe this isn't new, but I hadn't seen it before....

ive posted it numerous times when people have talked about how easy its going to be to fix this teams woes... its to bad there isnt a reality setting that kicks them out when they try and assign some of the dreamed up contract numbers that we see bantered about.    have fun  with it but be careful,  the more real you make it,  the more depressing our situation is.

Thought the opposite actually. People just have to realize that we probably won't be as good in certain areas as we're used to. Like CB, for example. Maybe NT. Might have to settle for Odenigbo over Griffen. Might have to start a 1st round tackle instead of Reiff. But as soon as you get over those things, you realize we're not that far away from having plenty of cap space to sign Harris, Weatherly, Bailey and even extend Cook.

Let's just do a rough map of it just for fun.

We're roughly 9M over the estimated 201M cap for '20. And rather than get into the vagaries of restructured deals, let's keep it simple and release Reiff, Griffen, Rhodes and Joseph. This puts us at 31M under. We need roughly 6M for the draft, giving us 25M. If we give Cook the same deal the Cowboys gave Elliott, that will hit the cap at 6M his first year. We're now at $19M. Give Harris a little more than Harry got, another $9M. We're now at $10M to sign Bailey, Colquitt and Weatherly, the only significant free agents I would for certain try to resign. Manageable. And that's without restructuring anyone. 2 or 3 players restructure and you can probably get another $4M. And if we extend Cousins, we can probably squeeze out an additional $4M or so.

Now, you have to replace those players you cut. You can replace Joseph with Watts, Griffen with Odenigbo or Weatherly, Rhodes with a 1st rounder and Reiff with O'Neill, O'Neill with a 2nd rounder or Udoh.

Now, the elephant in the room is corner. With Rhodes, Waynes, Alexander and maybe even Hughes gone, this team will have to load up on low priced free agents and/or middle round draft picks. A 3rd rounder, mid-tier free agent like Kendall Fuller in the slot. Boyd, Hill. It ain't pretty at the corner position, but really how pretty was it this year?

We were pretty much in agreement with the cuts,  I don't extend Cook though.  I would rather put that money towards the OL which will make Cousins and our existing stable of backs much better.  Cook is special,  but is not durable enough to make him a franchise type offer and wont go for it.  I would also entertain trade offers,  not going to sell just to sell,  but might as well see what interest he would bring and weigh that against what type of player would be available with that pick.

I also dont see Harris signing for that cheap,  he is forecasted at 12 to 14 mill per.

I know the general consensus is Kirk extends and lowers his cap number,  if he does I dont see it going down more than maybe 1 million and the average pushing over 33 mill per year with a 3 year extension.  To much imo for a QB who's best attributes has been to stay healthy and is able to shin against average competition.

I havent really looked at other teams free agents yet,  too early to get excited for players that will likely get resigned by their own teams or tagged but I am hoping for some major swings at both OL and DL.

I am also looking to find some cap space from Diggs contract.  Hes a special athlete,  but I am done with the drama,  if I can get a quality pick for him,  bye.
