2013 NFL Draft defensive tackle rankings

It's interesting Richardson has made his way to the Vikings mainly because of Sheriff's unfortunate injury most likely ending his career.  While most "experts" had Sheriff ranked as the 3rd best DT coming into the draft, he actually played as well as any, and appeared to be showing signs of dominating.  It will be interesting to see Richardson playing with Linvall.  I honestly haven't seen much of Sheldon, but he has the repuation of being a hard nosed, disrupting DT.    Below is a list of the 2013 DT rankings, and it's cool the Vikings now have had 2 of the top 3 on their roster.

We can only hope Sheldon thrives and dominates the way many of us thought Sheriff eventually would.

Look at #27 on the list.  I guess AD was thinking about skipping his senior year?  Looks like he made the the right choice. B)

If the talent at the 2013 NFL Draft is lacking, that certainly doesn't apply to the defensive tackle position. Three players, Star Lotulelei, Sheldon Richardson and Sharrif Floyd, could all be off the board in the first 15 picks, with each one battling it out to be drafted in the top five.

The talent runs deep at the position as well Johnathan Hankins is the next defensive tackle on our board, but Jesse Williams, Sylvester Williams, John Jenkins and Kawann Short are all jockeying for position in the top 40-50 picks of the draft.

A few gems could be found late in this class as well. Florida's Omar Hunter
has a chance to be a starting caliber nose tackle in the NFL, while
Tennessee-Martin's Montori Hughes needs only to get his head on straight
to become a serious value on day three of the draft.

2013: the year of the Defensive Tackle...Floyd was not to supposed to drop that far. Most draft folks had him in the top 5 leading up to the draft

Senior Bowl:








Kawaan Short from Purdue (6-3-308). He was probably the most consistently effective no matter which OL he was facing. Showed nice burst off the ball and the ability to knife through double teams and get to the QB consistently. But I expected that from Short—he'll probably be picked somewhere between 20 and 50, and would be a great pick as a versatile UT/NT for the Vikings at #23. 
Kawaan Short was an all pro in 2015









Disappointed: At 6-4, 359, John Jenkins is a beast…or something.  A lot of people whose opinion I respect said he showed well at the Senior Bowl. Rob Rang called him the "The South's most consistently disruptive defensive lineman." Man, I just didn't it. You could see his power. He can really push a pocket, but he made nothing happen, couldn't get off blocks, and spent half his time laying on the ground. I know a lot of people like him (I can see his appeal to a 3-4 team), but I wouldn't take him in the top 50; Sylvester Williams, while he didn't look bad, didn't impress me as a guy who should be a top 50 pick.  And I've seen some lists that have him in the top 20. You can see the quickness and the strength; he just wasn't very effective. He played like he was hurt or something. For someone who's considered one of the top DTs, he scares me. 
Saints selected Jenkins in the 3rd round. Bust. Williams was taken in the 1st round. Bust. 
Post draft:
Sharif Floyd

A gift. No other way to put it. I stopped studying him after January. Just wasn't an option for us.  I think Sheldon Richardson was the best 3-technique, but Floyd is a better all around DT. All but guarantees we won't skip a beat after KW leaves. 
So much for guarantees...and man I miss the days when I had time to do this!
