Vikings file to trademark ‘Minneapolis Miracle’
#1
The term “Minneapolis Miracle” has its own Wikipedia page. Now the Vikings want the term trademarked.
The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office shows the Vikings have filed for three trademarks for “Minneapolis Miracle” and one for “Minnesota Miracle.” The trademarks cover merchandise and first use in commerce rights.
The applications were filed Jan. 15.
The “Minneapolis Miracle,” also known as the “Minnesota Miracle,” was coined by Vikings radio announcer Paul Allen while calling the dramatic final play of the NFC divisional playoff game between the Minnesota Vikings and the New Orleans Saints last Sunday.
The Vikings defeated the Saints 29–24 on a history-making 61-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Case Keenum to wide receiver Stefon Diggs. This was the first NFL playoff game to end in a touchdown as the clock ran out.
The Vikings play the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday, the last deciding game before Super Bowl LII on Feb. 4 at U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis.
A Minnesota victory would score another first: No team has ever played in the Super Bowl on its home field.
