Vikings quarterback Kyle Sloter’s ears are burning
#1
They say the most popular player on any NFL team is the backup quarterback. In Denver, it might be the undrafted rookie quarterback the Broncos waived in September.
After a 35-9 loss to the Miami Dolphins on Dec. 3 extended Denver’s losing streak to eight, a lonely voice tweeted in the wilderness.
“Where are you Kyle Sloter? #Broncos.”
He’s in Minnesota, the third-stringer in a crowded quarterback room with starter Case Keenum and backup Teddy Bridgewater as the Vikings (10-3) march toward the postseason.
“I wouldn’t want to be anywhere else,” Sloter said last week.
The Vikings pounced on Sloter when the Broncos waived him to make room for free agent Brock Osweiler, brought back as depth when he was cut by Cleveland. One of three quarterbacks to play for the Broncos this season, Osweiler is 0-3 in three starts.
Sloter, of course, is undefeated, his entire NFL career comprising four preseason games, during which he completed 31 of 43 attempts and three touchdowns without an interception.
“Broncos definitely should have held onto Kyle Sloter at the beginning of the season,” tweeted another unsatisfied customer.
Yes, Kyle Sloter’s ears are burning, and because no one ever sees him practice, the chatter is universally positive.

It will he really telling what they think they have in this kid this offseason.  If they only retain 1 of the current 3 "starters" and don't look for a veteran #2 and don't take a QB early... we better start thinking of this kid as a future #1,  otherwise it might be just another fun story for a year or two.

Sloter is saying the right things, but there's no way privately he isn't wishing he was still in Denver: he'd be getting a shot at the starting position with the QB shit show there. Kyle has gotten active roster practice reps, which has been good for him with the Vikings, but there's the whole Bradford-Keenum-Bridgewater thing in front of him here.

I am betting he wishes he stayed there now.

if hes a smart kid he'd be happy he wasnt there now.  he needs some time in a system before facing the pressures of a starting QB for a good franchise.  fan expectations will be unrealistic and being comfortable in the system before having to read defenses and get caught up on playing the position is huge in terms of development.

The key question is how much is Elway wishing Sloter was there now.  I'd be okay with trading Sloter for their first round pick in 2018.

Is this meant to be sarcastic? There isn't any way you will get even close to that in return for Sloter. He isn't ready at all for one. You may get a 7th round pick if you are lucky and maaaaaaybe a 6th round from Denver.
He may want to be in Denver right now because I am sure he wants to play, but I don't feel that would be best for his development.

dude is right where he needs to be. On the roster of a damn good team, learning from various QB minds, Teddy, Sam, Case.

He is not a dummy, he knows that all 3 have contract questions coming up, meaning bide your time, hone your craft and next year you will be in the running to QB a team with a premier group of WRs, a red zone beast TE, an improving OL and a great backfield behind him when Dalvin comes back. Oh btw he has a top 3 defense on the other side of the ball

The kid wasn’t a premier QB in high school, college, where the spotlight is on him, he doesnt need to be the starter now. What he needs to do is be patient, hone his craft and enjoy the ride.

Next year he competes for the starting job, 2019 it might be his. If he could establish a pocket presence, sharpen his knowledge of the playbook, with that arm and athleticism he could be something special

You have to ask? Next you're going to tell me I shouldn't post after drinking 4 glasses of mead.

If I was a 3rd string quarterback with potential and looking at the rest of the quarterbacks with blown-out knees, I'd be inclined to hang around and see what happens...
