I was 4 when it first came out and though I've seen it on TV a bunch and had it on DVD and now Bluray, I've never seen it on a big screen. Until today Had heard about the 50th year release but didn't expect my half-horse town theatre to get it. Heading out the door now and can't wait!

My older sister and her boyfriend took me to the theater to see Jaws when it came out, I was 9 years old, lol.....needless to say I was checking the bathtub for sharks for awhile. It holds up surprisingly well, enjoy man.

Love this...
One of my favorite scenes was Quint reminiscing about WW2, floating in the ocean waiting for help to come - while his sea mates are getting eaten alive.
Today? I'll wade out a bit into the water from the beach line, but not very far. I'm talking like maybe a foot deep.
I still wont swim in the ocean...Seriously.

Jaws is a perfect film. The adventure, the terror, the jump scares, Richard Dreyfus's comic relief, Robert Shaw's acting chops. It just doesn't get any better than this.

Some interesting things about that. The Indianapolis was one of the last American vessels sunk in WW2. The atomic bombs that it delivered were dropped not long after. Its captain, Charles B. McVay III, was court-martialed for "failling to zig zag." He was found guilty, but later exonerated by the Navy. Unfortunately, he took his own life about 30 years before that happened.
The Japanese sub commander who fired the torpedoes that sunk the Indy testified on McVay's behalf, saying that he could not have saved his ship by zig zagging.
