And why would the Vikings want to launch JJM's career by hiring a backup who makes 40 mil and wants to start, making JJM look over his shoulder every time things go wrong?
Let's stress out our new QB who is trying to make it in the NFL by bringing back the guy we got rid of because he hoovers up the payroll and doesn't produce any postseason success. Great plan!
They need a backup who is no threat to start, whose job is to hold a clipboard and pat the kid on the back and who doesn't cost the team anything significant.
Because the Vikings are one of the few teams with a need at QB2 and the kind of ridiculous level of cap space to acquire part of the salary the Falcons are paying. The Vikings also have a big interest in the picks they'd get in return for doing so. Why would Kirk approve a trade back to Minny? He likely wouldn't. He'll want to go to a team where he can at least compete for the starting job. That is likely not the Vikings. But there may not be another opportunity. The Viking offer stability, familiarity, legit super bowl contention and the best offense in the NFL. There are worse situations for him.
If McCarthy gets "stressed" by the veteran looking over his shoulder, we have a problem, and it's not the backup QB. Hey Viking fans, why did your franchise QB fail? Funny story, that: Apparently because his backup was too good.

I agree with most everything except the no threat to JJM part, JJM seems to be a lot more mentally solid than that, I dont think he would play looking over his shoulder. The kid seems pretty chill.
the rest of it, yeah, Kirk dont want to be here anymore than he wants to be in ATL. If there isnt a clear path to QB1 or a likelyhood of getting to compete, he isnt interested.
Why isn't Chuck Foreman in the Hall of Fame?

It's like saying if JJM's path gets fucked by having Kirko around then he's not worth it.
But there's nothing inherently true about that. He might be the type who needs a year or two as the unchallenged starter to establish a confident foundation.
It doesn't make sense for the team to bring in the QB of the past to hang around the qbotf. It's not a fuck around and find out experiment, it's building the future of the franchise. IMO you take no such chances and you definitely don't bring back a guy you got rid of who wants to start.
Fortunately, I think Kirk back to Minnesota rumors have as much credibility as Sam coming back and Rodgers in purple.
As for Kirko, there are always qb-needy teams, I'm sure he can land a starting spot somewhere if Atlanta will let him go.

Big Kirko says he won’t wave his no-trade clause ‘til after the draft! Fool him once, shame on the NFL, fool him twice, nah…

I don't think so. He didn't play last year.

? You can also say that maybe he’s the guy that needs a challenge and to be in a system where he’s pushed to be his best and by not having a challenger, you’re embarking on the Fuck around and find out train. You don’t get to monopolize which pathway is the risky one. They’re both risky. In my mind, the Fuck around and find out pathway is the one where you just hand the starting role to someone who hasn’t earned it and then don’t challenge them until the whole world has watched you shit the bed for 5 years. We just dumped on the Giants because they didn’t bring in competition, even though it was the right opportunity, when they sucked then and now.
Regardless, Agreed that Kirk’s not coming here and JJM isn’t that weak.
