Hoisting one for the un-heralded
#1
Offensive coordinator Wes Phillips is in his 18th NFL season as an assistant coach, and that experience led the 45-year-old grandson of former Oilers and Saints head coach Bum Phillips to point out an unheralded reason for this 14-2 season.

Phillips credited the bottom of the Vikings roster for continually bringing effort on the “scout team,” which is the group of players who don’t often play on offense or defense, but they are asked to mimic the upcoming opponent as best as possible during practices.

“This has been the best look team, group that I’ve been a part of since I’ve been in the league,” Phillips said. “We were fortunate to have some vets over there at times, Bobby [McCain] being one of them. ...

We got guys that give great effort up front, Bo Richter, Levi [Drake Rodriguez], [Jalen] Redmond, who has shown now what he can do in games. I think these things do correlate.”

It would take an experienced football mind to make the observation that "the bottom of the roster" is the critical component in any team's success. Not much is said about Wes Phillips, and I think we're fortunate to have him along with BFlo flanking KOC.

Yes, my appreciation for Wes has grown leaps and bounds as well.

Same with McKown and of course BFlo and much of his staff.

The unheralded member of the KOC staff and future OC of this team? Is a young fella name Grant Udinski.

KOC is convinced he is a savant and will be a HC some day.

Always see Udinski with McCown and Darnold, seems to be contributing a lot to their conversations and always with the tablet, sometimes get thrown off when they show him cause he looks like a Reichard a little.

I still remember reading about a Belichick story on KOC. He said, in front of the whole team in KOC rookie year, "O'Connell wont make much of an NFL QB but he will be one hell of a coach"

KOC is just a great coach. He set up his staff absolutely perfect however.
