Comeback Player of the Year?
#1
So..evidently the direction from the AP changed regarding Comeback Player of the Year after Damar Hamlin failed to receive the award after almost dying on the field.  The AP is directing the award evidently to best player in the NFL that was hurt last year.  This voter from Outkick thinks Josh Jacobs should be this years recipient because he overcame a Quad bruise that ended his season in Las Vegas last year.  So...overcoming an injury that usually takes just rest for 2-4 weeks to finish out the season qualifies as award worthy vs someone like a Sam Darnold or Joe Flacco previously?

Just eliminate the award if it goes to Jacobs...one because he's not deserving...and two...because its the Packers.  Maybe they can just add a wing on their Hall of Fame at Lambeau.

"The debate remains at a whisper now, but when the NFL season ends and the Associated Press begins voting on its annual awards, the discussion about whether Joe Burrow or Sam Darnold should win the Comeback Player Of The Year award is going to get quite loud.

And that's because there's controversy whether Darnold should be considered at all.

The Minnesota Vikings quarterback is having a great season, by the way. A career year. He has crawled out of the depths of being a first-round draft bust to a backup to a second-tier signing by the Vikings this year.

But a funny thing happened to Darnold on his  path to a middling career. He got a chance to play, and his performance this season has been an epiphany.

Darnold has thrown 28 touchdown passes, tying him for third most in the league. He has only 10 interceptions. His 3,299 passing yards is sixth most and his passer rating of 108.1 is third highest.

The guy is having the kind of year that makes him a legitimate Most Valuable Player candidate.

But it says right here he's not the Comeback Player of the Year. Because he can't be. It's not what the award is about."

I mean....GEQBUS had his feelings hurt playing as a backup to Purdy last year.

They really should've have eliminated Sam from the Comeback Player options on the betting sites. I saw it there, but thankfully knew the criteria had changed. The award he will win is Most Improved Player, which Mayfield won last year. Unfortunately that one was not an option on the betting site I use.

If they give the award to Jacobs...they should just eliminate the award altogether. A guy that had 4 weeks to end the season and all offseason bravely battled back...from a thigh bruise..in the NFL?

Per Wikipedia:
The AP NFL Comeback Player of the Year Award (CBPOY) is presented annually by the Associated Press (AP) to a player in the National Football League (NFL). While the criteria for the award is imprecise,[1] it is typically given to a player who overcomes the worst adversity to return to play even a single snap of NFL football, such as not playing the previous season, injury, or for playing well in comparison to the previous year's poor performance.[2] The winner is selected by a nationwide panel of media personnel.[3] Since 2011, the award has been presented at the NFL Honors ceremony held the day before the Super Bowl.

The AP first recognized an NFL comeback player of the year from 1963 to 1966, but these players are typically not included in overall lists of winners.[4] The AP did not give the award again until the 1998 season. The only player to receive the award more than once, after the AFL–NFL merger,[5] is quarterback Chad Pennington, who received it in 2006 with the New York Jets and in 2008 with the Miami Dolphins.

Next thing we'll change how 4th Quarter comebacks are defined. It's players who were injured, but then kept playing.

If Darnold doesn't win this award, no matter the 'new' definition, its beyond a farce. The NFL and their awards anyway, major eye roll for me.

Given that explanation...Joe Flacco who overcame binging on Netflix over Damar Hamlin who practically died on the football field?
