You can hear that anywhere, I dont think ignorance is exclusive to golf, nor should it be defined by a few loud morons. If anything I would say in today's society most are going overboard to avoid the potential backlash from even the appearance of bias to avoid getting canceled.@JimmyinSD said:
The only reason I bring that up is because I have been on exclusive courses: and not because I'm wealthy or even good at golf, really...lol. Just because I have some friends across the country that are and they invite me for comic relief. :p But I've seen and heard some shit over the years. Lots of it. And it's very...cough....'interesting'.@StickyBun said:
Lol, it has to be racism and not money that keeps them predominantly white and male. And I've played golf all over the country before i quit the game, playing some extremely nice private courses, as well as PGA owned facilities. IMO Its the hockey argument, dont see a lot of minorities playing hockey so it has to be racism. Has nothing to do with the expense of the game, the locations of the facilities, and the lack of minorities playing it at an early age.@JimmyinSD said:
lol, you've obviously never golfed at high end golf clubs that are exclusive. You live where again? North Dakota? Or South Dakota? Yeah....@StickyBun said:
I think your take on golf is a bit aged considering one of the best of all times is half black half Asian, and his mom was a woman and they didnt care.@JR44 said:
Yes, I would. And I love golf. But your rant has nothing to do with the MONEY. Its a unique situation. There's nothing condescending about my take, your take is ridiculous because I'd bet my house that if YOU were offered that kind of money, you'd take it. Rory can afford to be a little bitch boy, he's one of the richest golfers of all time. The 'integrity' of the game of golf, what a joke. Its a rich man's sport. And racist and sexist as hell:@StickyBun said:
Got it, so it is ridiculous for someone to be loyal and to have their own personal ethics and morals guide their decision making. Nice condescending take. What is ridiculous is acting like these guys are getting paid minimum wage by the PGA, an organization that with the most extreme dedication and commitment turned what is arguably the most boring spectator sport, the sports equivalent of watching paint dry, into a sport that has turned these guys into international superstars, providing them marketing opportunities to earn more than their tour earnings by walking around as human billboards and creating generational wealth. I guarantee you wouldn't have the same opinion if something like this was tearing the NFL apart.@JR44 said:
I thought the PGA and LIV merged? The PGA made these guys who they are today, personally I think they are scum for defecting and I am with Rory and others on this. Think they should not be allowed to participate in PGA events once they leave. PGA needs to take a harder stance. There are plenty of great golfers who can fill their spots. Please. Just stop. Its ridiculous and you'd take the money every day and twice on Sunday.
"Augusta National admitted no African American members until 1990 and no women members until 2012. The club long required all caddies to be Black and banned Black golfers from the Masters Tournament until Lee Elder participated in 1975."
I dont think it was a golf thing that kept minorities out for so long as much as it was a money thing, but that has changed in the last twenty years so with the LPGA getting at more exposure and it seems that about 1/4 of most fields are minorities. Considering that its a global game but not really played in poor parts of the world, its likely really just about money and opportunity.
.
As far as golf in the northern plains, you might be surprised, we got quite a few golf courses up here that will challenge many of the "private" courses. In other parts of the country.
