A lot of people bagging on Kwesi and I get that. But maybe Rob Brzezinski should have a little light shined on him as well. Some of the contracts in recent years have handcuffed the GM a bit.

This article is kind of right and kind of bullshit.  A lot of the things they reference are pro-team propaganda type metrics.  They say things like the defenders didn’t play as good last as they did in the past.  Well, how much of that is the players fault and how much of that is the coaching staffs fault?  I think we can all agree that the defensive coaching was a hot mess, it was making the players look worse than they would have looked with better coaching, and the primary coach responsible for the defense was fired.  I don’t think it’s valid to say that the performance decline is entirely on the players, and I think they need to really explain how they are qualifying how much performance decline they are attributing to the players and how much was on coaching.  Secondly, they’re saying things like Thielen has a large cap hit of 20M , so he’s being cut.  How much of that is cap hit is the team using funny accounting to pay AT less cap dollars in the past, and how much of that is his actual value.  It would be much more genuine to say that the Vikings just can’t afford to pay two expensive veteran receivers and also an expensive veteran TE and they’re rightfully prioritizing Jefferson and Hockenson.
I think we’re still in the honeymoon phase, where we don’t really have any historical information on whether or not the choices made have panned out, but I think by the end of the year, we’re going to have a lot more clarity.  If Addison ends the year with 350 yards, and we’re still talking about what we can add to the offense to get it over the hump, it’s not going to look good.  Defensively, if we’re wondering why Flores isn’t working magic with all the no names we have out there after we’ve gotten rid of all our defensive starters, it will be what it is.

Everyone has their opinion on Kwesi and the front office, why did they cut him and not trade him for a pick.  Why did they draft that guy and not the guy that somebody posting on a Viking website likes.  Nobody here or any other site knows what is going on in the Viking offices on a daily basis.  To think that Kwesi gets a wild idea and comes to the office and makes a move on a whim is delusional.  I'm pretty sure he has a detailed plan of what he is looking to do during free agency, in the draft, and the time before training camp starts.

Nobody in the entire league was going to trade for Dalvin with his contract knowing that it's only a matter of time before he is cut.  Dalvin gave the team six good years and if they had kept him, it's a certainty that at some point posters would be bitching about how Kwesi fucked up by not letting Cook go.

I think they really tried to get something for him, but...

Thielen, Kendricks, Za'Darius all older players on big $ contracts.   I just wish they had enough waiting in the wings to let some other players currently on the roster go.

The D personnel is pretty concerning to me.

You are mostly correct, but the detailed plan part is up for debate.  His philosophy to date is "living in today and tomorrow" and "making decisions probablistically with quantifiable data while evaluating the team's time horizon" (his words,  not mine)...

I think his detractors to date are frustrated with the rolling rebuild approach and question whether we got better this off-season or not.  He's made some good moves and some questionable ones in his short time as GM.

I like his personality, he seems like a smart dude, and also appears to have a great relationship with O'Connell (which is extremely important).  But I don't like how he talks about the team in Wall Street/stick trader jargon and this rolling rebuild approach only works if you have a good QB.  Cousins isn't going to play forever and he's only signed thru this season.

This post isn't meant as a dig towards Kwesi, it's more to point out he still has a lot to prove before we can feel good about him as our GM.

A good read from ESPN on the "competitive rebuild" and if it's a viable model towards building a championship. Things standing out to me from the article is confirmation of the Wilf's competitive mandates and Harrison Smith's comments on the leadership lost and not knowing how the new pieces are going to fit in. I still think we are just treading water and not going to be a contender this upcoming season
