Yeah, they didn't want to move the money into 2024. A post June-1 cut also doesn't help you in the interim. Although you can designate a player now you need to carry the full cap hit until June 1. 

Even saving $6-7M now opens up the potential to add a player. Most deals have lower cap numbers in year 1 so then by the time you reach 2024 any added player would effectively be taking Thielen's salary slot.

This graph is interesting and why I thought we'd probably end up with about $20M under the cap. Vikings were $12M over, but if they restructure half of the eligible money, they would have about $21M. They could choose to do less or more depending on the players they want to target and what they want future years to look like. But the flexibility is there for $42M if they choose to use it. Could explain whey they're pursuing OBJ.
