Rico will muster up all of his magic tele-coach powers to prevent this.
I'm almost positive the position coaches, the coordinators, and the head coach have more say than Rick.
Actually, the Vikings front office has final say on the 53 man roster from what I've heard.  The coaching staff provides their input, but it's not Zimmer handing in his final 53 and calling it good.  If you want evidence of that, look at how things went down with Robison and who Pops had an issue with when he was let go...  I'll tell you this, it wasn't Zimmer that cut Robison that year, he wanted him back.
I'm almost positive that Rick did not start Dozier over and over and over again last year.
In a weird COVID year with no off-season to speak of...  who would you a expect the coaches to start?  He was the only veteran OG...  otherwise we had two young OTs (one a rookie who needed to get stronger and the other was from a small college and entering his 2nd year with limited actual game reps).

I'll ask the question...  who signed him in the first place thinking he was a good FA option?  And who signed him again after the season he had last year?
Does Rick operate in a vacuum, or does he work with the coaching staff?

The same coaching staff that started Bisi over Jefferson btw.
You're saying the real dummies are at the top...like Zim and Rick?  Finally we agree!!

My opinion:

I think Zimmer needs a playoff team and probably a win to stay into next year.

Rick is safe and rightfully so.

They are not tied at the hip like some GM/HC.

I think it needs to be remembered,  Zim wasnt likely Ricks choice,  Yes Rick was the GM at that point, but the Wilfs were still taking council from the Tuna and Zim was a favorite of Parcells.   Its likely that the reason that Stefanski stuck around as long as he did was IMO that he was likely Ricks candidate to replace Zim if shit didnt work out 2 years ago.  Ski and Spielman seem to be a better fit that Rick and Zimmer... that just has an odd couple feel to it.

We'll have to see how the season goes of course but I agree, this should be the expectation for Zimmer. Hopefully for all our sakes he's up to the task.
I think Rick is safe regardless.

Going to need a W right out of the gate on the road in Cincy. If not, doubt will creep in. With a win, 'it was just preseason'.

Agree that Rick is safe. But I'm not so sure Zimmer is teetering on the ledge as much as some think. I have my problems with him (game prep), but I also acknowledge that he's one of the best defensive minds in the game. That's a nice thing to have.
