The Minnesota Vikings lost one of their fabled originals over with the passing of cornerback Ed Sharockman – one of the original Vikings and a member of the 50 Greatest Vikings team. Sharockman, 77, died of congestive heart failure.
A star at the University of Pittsburgh, Sharockman was selected in the fifth round of the Vikings’ inaugural draft – as well as being drafted by the Dallas Texans of the AFL. Sharockman chose the Vikings and would play 12 years with the team, making his mark as a veteran leader of Bud Grant’s Super Bowl vintage teams of the early 1970s.
