Urban Meyer suspended for three games by Ohio State

Columbus, Ohio (CNN)Ohio State University football coach Urban Meyer was suspended for three games without pay in the wake of an investigation into exactly what he knew about spousal abuse allegations leveled against former assistant coach Zach Smith, the university announced Wednesday night.
Athletic Director Gene Smith was suspended without pay from August 31 to September 16, according to a summary of the investigative findings and university actions.

"Although neither Urban Meyer, nor Gene Smith condoned or covered up the alleged domestic abuse by Zach Smith, they failed to take sufficient management action relating to Zach Smith's misconduct and retained an assistant coach who was not performing as an appropriate role model for OSU student-athletes," the summary said.

Meyer said he wanted to apologize to Ohio State fans.

"I'm fully aware I'm ultimately responsible for this situation," Meyer said. "I followed my heart and not my head. At each juncture, I gave Zach Smith the benefit of the doubt."

Wouldn't want him to miss any conference games. Durkin at Maryland won't get any worse, they already sacrificed their scapegoat.

It's actually 1 more then I expected. Thought they would take a "tough" stance and suspend him for the home games against Oregon St and Rutgers. Then be back before they played at #16 TCU. Urban is a slim ball. This is coming from a Gator fan who got adopted into the clan in the 80's when I moved down here.
When I moved to Florida Galen Hall was their head coach. The U of Miami was pumping out NFL QB's and the Noles were soundly thumping the Gators every year. I guess it's something in me that picked the Gators. A shrink might understand my need to pick a losing collage team over 2 better teams ones. Well maybe it was I was dating a girl who's whole family was Gator fans and they adopted me. Then along came Spurrier and life was good for the Gator Nation. Somehow now the Urban Meyer era seems like a pact more then a blessing.
