Ha, I'm doing the same thing. The Viking game last weekend was on at the cabin, and a bunch of us were watching together. Suddenly my five year old grandson starts chanting "Vikings are #1!, Vikings are #1!". I just smiled and shook my head in agreement. The entire time I'm thinking 'poor little dude, he has so much to learn about this team.' B)
The next generation of Viking fans are coming, and there's no stopping them - SKOL!
I look at wins vs losses through the same lens I used when I was in weekly pick 'em pools and in fantasy leagues.
In other words, I take my Fandom out of the equation and look at rosters, injury situations with key roles, styles of play, Uncle Mo, home vs away games, etc.
This Offense WILL lag behind the Defense early in the year. That's pure logic. New QB, new OC, RB1 coming off of injury. Perpetually dinged up O-Line.
I'm looking at 2-2 to start the season. But it's football. A sport of streaks and bizarre upsets. Which is why I'd pick the Vikings over Philly on the road but wouldn't pick them to beat the Rams on the road.
I've used this combination of analysis and gut instinct to great success over the years. Which is probably why nobody will let me in their betting pools or FF Leagues any more.
Beat the Pats, lose to Seattle. Beat the Saints, lose the following week at home against the Lions.
The roster is too strong to get shocked by say the Bears, Jets or Cards. But this team ain't going undefeated. There will be many memorable wins and a few real head scratching losses. Why? Because, Sports. It's the best reality show ever because of the sheer unpredictability.
Barring a rash of injuries I think 12-4 is pretty spot on. The Vikings should have blown out the Saints twice last year. Minnesota got better while Brees' arm continues to get weaker. Philly lost some important pieces including their coaching staff. The Pats look to finally be nearing their expiration date.
But LA will be looking to establish themselves as a legit contender. The Lions have a knack for grinding out a win in Minnesota. Going from the East Coast to Seattle has typically been very hard for even great teams.
I could be talked into 11-5. 10-6 only if I knew now that the injury bug would hit. But 12-4 feels right. Let's find out how close I am to being a seer!
Of course, if I am perfect you all will never hear the end of it. And did I forget to mention I won the Corey Chavous Draft Contest? That should give my words more gravitas

On paper the team has enough talent to win 13 games again, but that doesn't mean its going to happen. It's actually incredibly rare and doesn't necessarily suggest being pessimistic.
Since the 2010 14 teams have finished a season with 13 or greater wins. In the subsequent season there have only been three occasions of a team winning 13 or more games in consecutive seasons. Patriots 2010/11 (won 14 and regressed to 13 wins), Broncos 2012/13 (won 13 each season), Patriots 2015/16 (won 13 each season). In fact, of the 14 teams that won 13 or more games nearly 40% of them missed the playoffs the following season. I'd agree that is slightly skewed since some teams are at the end of their competitive window. But that's still a significant number of teams. In all, the average number of wins achieved on average the next season is 10.1, which is reasonable.
A past season is never indicative of a future season since you can't predict injuries to your squad or another, legal issues, and other qualitative factors. But fact of the matter is its awfully hard to repeat as 13 game winners. With a 1st place schedule, two trips to the west coast, and Rodgers returning its hard to say they're only going to lose 3. Especially with the weighted front 1/3 of the schedule. But 10-11 wins seems realistic which still could win you the NFCN.
Even though I say 12 wins, I agree with FSU and Geoff: I could easily be talked into 11.

All that is baked into the cake though, Geoff. Of course there will be injuries. For all teams. But you can't predict them. For any team. So the only things we should be considering right now are training camp rosters, depth charts, coaches and schedule. And by that measure, the Vikings look to be quite a bit better than they were in '17. Now, no doubt, the Vikings could be MUCH better in '18 and it won't necessarily translate to more wins. Too many other factors involved. But why start throwing that crap into your cake? That's just defeatist.
Even if you start factoring in intangibles like patterns, trends, regressions to the mean, Mars in retrograde, everyone always seems to forget that the Vikings, too, were hit hard by injuries last year. Everyone talks about the yellow team losing its starting QB, but always forget that we did too, as well as our star running back. Don't blame us because we were better prepared for it than the yellow team.
No, this is not a team due for a fall back down to earth. This is not a team that needs everything to go right in order to win 13 games. It's a team on a rocket ship to the moon. Time ya'll got on board. Smells like rainbows in here.
