Stunner: Mark Ingram handed four-game PED ban

NFL suspended Saints RB Mark Ingram four games for violating the league's PED policy.
This one comes out of nowhere, though you could say that about most PED bans. Headed into his eighth season in the league, Ingram has never before been suspended. The Saints don't go on bye until Week 6, so Ingram will be eligible to return in Week 5. Ingram has battled the injury bug at times during his career, but he appeared in all 16 games each of the past two seasons. His absence will leave a huge opening for all-world young runner Alvin Kamara to command an even bigger role. Kamara's early 2018 ADP is already that of a mid-first rounder. It's the worst possible start to Ingram's contract year.

Coincidence?

“ The suspension comes just four months after Ingram completed the most successful year of his career. “

Kamara is great and will certainly take on a bigger role in Ingram’s absence, but he cannot take all of Ingram’s touches, not even for 4 games. Brees will likely have to throw a few more passes the first quarter of next year. But they need someone, a bigger back, to take up some of the slack left by Ingram’s suspension.

The Saints first four games is probably the easiest stretch of their season.  RBs are easy to replace in this league.  Beteeen Kamara and a draft pick they like, Ingram’s suspension shouldn’t affect their record.
Really bad timing for him though.  Aging RBs aren’t highly valued and its a contract year and the Saints are up hard against the cap.

Sounds like the Saints are ready to move on
