OT: Country Jer retires from Rutgers after 1 season - health reasons
#1
Jerry Kill retires from Rutgers after 1 year due to health | National search underway for new OCJerry Kill is again retiring from coaching and Rutgers football again is in need of a new offensive coordinator.
Kill, who suffers from epilepsy, will not return strictly because of his health, putting Rutgers in the market for an unparalleled ninth offensive coordinator in nine seasons after the latest one-year stint. A national search already is underway, a source told NJ Advance Media.
While both Kill and Rutgers coach Chris Ash expressed an in-season desire to continue the partnership into 2018, it became clear recently that change was coming.
Kill's decision comes on eve of the first early National Signing Day, when recruits will ink binding letters of intent. Had it come a few days later, the national perception might have been that Rutgers withheld the news in order to secure commitments under false pretenses -- a strategy used by some schools that draws outrage toward the NCAA model.
On the other hand, Ash addressed the possibility of Kill's departure with recruits during official visits, and Kill, who was not involved in recruiting after the season, informed the team of his pending situation last week.
