Sources: Tennessee backs out of Greg Schiano hiring after campus protests
#1
Tennessee has backed out of a memorandum of understanding with Ohio Statedefensive coordinator Greg Schiano to be the Volunteers' next football coach, sources told ESPN's Chris Low.
The memorandum of understanding was signed by both parties Sunday in Columbus, Ohio, and the school had planned to introduce Schiano at a news conference Sunday night.
But when news broke that Tennessee was close to finalizing a deal with Schiano earlier Sunday, there was public outcry among Tennessee fans, with people citing his alleged connection to the Jerry Sandusky era at Penn State.
About 100 people gathered on Tennessee's campus to protest a potential Schiano hire, with many of them holding signs with various messages such as "Schia-NO.''
At a rock on campus where students often paint various messages, the words "Schiano covered up child rape at Penn State'' appeared Sunday.
Schiano, Urban Meyer's defensive coordinator at Ohio State for the last two seasons, and Tom Bradley, defensive coordinator under recently fired UCLAcoach Jim Mora, were both Penn State assistants under Joe Paterno during Sandusky's tenure.

All are guilty until proven innocent.  The loudest jerks win.  Sad.

Here's an article that details the evidence of Schiano's involvement in the cover-up at Penn State.  Besides an accusation through multilevel hearsay by the government's star witness, there is zero evidence that suggests Schiano knew of Sandusky's behavior.

I don't have a dog in this fight and really don't know a hell of alot about the whole who did what at Penn state,  but this whole thing feels wrong.  If this man was never convicted of a crime,  how can he be given a job and then have it taken away without any recourse.

It's scary times where a lynch mob can ruin a person's life with no burden of proof or fear of recourse.

If he was at all involved....he should have his life destroyed,  but as deep as that mess was dug into with nothing attached to him,  I have my doubts he was involved.

If he wasn't involved, and he knows it... he should sue. I don't know for what, but this is ridiculous. The guy is now diseased. NOBODY will hire him.

He wasn't even charged because no one could find anything that he knew beyond heresay - which under oath was completely denied by the person as incorrect.

Tampa Bay did a ton of due diligence on Schiano before hiring him years ago....and they still hired him.

It's delusional college football fans with delusional boosters who think that their perceived blue blood programs can simply snap their fingers and a living legend of a coach will ask where to sign up. This has nothing to do with Schiano's involvement in a murky Penn State scandal, and everything to do with the fans and boosters believing they deserve Nick Saban to drop his current job and come running to their almighty institution. Tennessee is possibly the worst of the worst. They seem to think that coaches still think of them as a prized job. They've treated every HC like dumpster water since throwing out legend Phillip Fulmer. Just exactly who would want that job? Maybe a guy trying to resurrect his career...
