'Kevin O'Connell's Hardest Vikings Season May Shape His Future'

He may not have wanted to have to pivot from his core offensive philosophy, but he did, and it helped the Vikings win their final five games. Will Kevin O’Connell see that as a winning formula when the games matter to start next season?
If u want to make the playoffs and win in the post-season, you have to be efficient at running the football... Hurry-up Vikings, we ain't getting any younger!

4 years into KOC coaching the Vikings and I've yet to see any thread here after 60+ games that complained KOC ran the ball too much...

Lock down D, balanced offense, what could happen?

I'm skeptical. I think he'll learn some lessons in the offseason, but still be trying to pass the whole game once the season starts.
That said, I hope we implement some additions to the offense.

The guy is 43-25 during the regular season. His only losing season was the QB injuryfest that included the Passtronaut. 0-2 in the playoffs and that's where we fans wait for him to break through. With stable QB play and just a little help with a minimum of injuries to the O-line, do you really think he won't get past that final hurdle/criticism? Minnesota just signed one of the best defensive minds in the NFL to a new contract in BFlo. As I mentioned, whether its an improved JJM or a new QB1 this September, better QB play is all but guaranteed. You can choose pessimism, but all the signs are there for optimism. The NFCN is there for anyone to grab.
(cue the 'watch it all burn' crowd)

I don't think its a given that KOC "breaks through" with a playoff win if he continues what he's done so far, and I think it gets far more challenging if Flores leaves. KOC has had a very one dimensional offense despite being stacked with talent. You can't be one dimensional against the best teams. This isn't a watch it all burn take, this is a "What needs to happen to win it all take"

Counterpoint- KO's offense is one dimensional because it's stacked with talent... at catching passes. Our running backs have been markedly worse than our WRs during most/all of KO's time here. I'd be trying to get Jefferson the ball before Alexander Mattison or Ty Chandler too. I agree we need to run more overall-- and last year it happened kinda-- but I disagree with everyone insinuating the running attack is some glaring flaw in KO's makeup that he's blind too. |
