We're going to find out now.....

...how KOC feels about JJ McCarthy. If he brings in someone like Kyler Murray or takes a swing on someone like Malik Willis, then he is deadly serious about a true QB competition. You can bag on Murray all you'd like, and I'm not saying necessarily I'm a huge fan, but like MB said in another thread the kid is talented. He's 28 years old. JJM's contract is rookie so him sliding to QB2 is no big deal at all if he were to lose a true QB competition. If KOC still feels strongly that JJM is The Man for the franchise with more reps and game play, that will also be evident here in another month+. But having said that, bringing in some TRUE QB competition for JJ is going to be expensive. Does that make sense to do at the detriment of filling other holes through free agency? I don't know.

Countless rumors and baseless horseshit is saturating social media currently, but the rubber will meet the road soon enough. KOC will have more influence and I'm sure he and the new GM will be in lock step with the QB direction. Don't expect to glean anything in any upcoming pressers with O'Connell, you'll only get Coachspeak. I will only trust the actions, not the commentary or the online 'insiders'. The nice part is it won't take long to know.

Will they though? Sounds like we're not going to name a GM until after the draft. We have to make our QB decision 6 weeks before that. So, unless it's Brzzzzz, the GM will have had no part in choosing the QB we bring in to compete with JJ.

Yep. Other than agreeing with the transaction, that's exactly right. I think they (KOC/staff) already have someone pegged. Whether they can get that person is another matter. But the GM will be a bystander in this particular matter, has to be with the timing. I mean, didn't they say they wouldn't hire a GM until after the Draft? That's the end of April...they can't afford to let free agency go without acting for what 50+ days? That's an eternity in free agency. Brez/Grigson/KOC are going to be responsible for what happens, with KOC taking the lead in the QB arena.

What I mean about lock step is the vision of the team. I can't imagine the Wilfs will hire a GM that KOC doesn't approve of. That won't happen again.

We will NOT be taking a QB in the draft.  So it doesn't matter.  Let Brez take the reins of this one.
I saw that there are five current NFL Assistant GMs that could be in the running...Wilf's are gonna go with a football guy, not a Wall Street analyst this time around.
And KOC is going to be heavily involved in determining chemistry.

The timing is unfortunate...

Not having a GM in place for such an important shift is huge.

I trust Brez with the CAP and $$ gyration, not roster vision and execution.

The Vikings will be relying on Brez/KOC for all the key decisions this year I guess.

Hurry-up Vikings, we ain't getting any younger!

Neither Murray nor Willis look like guys who can run KOC's YOLO offense.  I'd try to pry Jameis Winston away from the Giants--he best fits the profile and won't demand big money or a guaranteed starting job.

It really has to be someone who could take over but not be a real threat to unseat JJM.  They have to ride with the kid at least one more year because I doubt the Wilfs would be on board for so quickly ditching the guy they spent #10 on.

KOC the master politician managed to engineer the demise of his gm while he happened to be out of town, so I'm assuming he runs the show now and is the defacto gm since Brez is basically an accountant who knows very little about personnel.

If I'm the Wilfs it's put up or shut up time for KOC.  Gave him the power, now win some playoffs or probably get canned a year from now.

With the upcoming draft, I hope KOC doesn't think about all offense before defense. Right now, the priorities should be on cornerback, inside linebacker and nose tackle. Yes, we need center, running back and better line depth.

I'm guessing Flores will be very involved with personnel decisions also.
