COLUMN: The most encouraging part of J.J. McCarthy’s performance while leading the Vikings past the Lions?

The fact that he wasn’t satisfied in the immediate aftermath.

“I’m not proud,” he said. “I feel like I could’ve played a lot better.”

I think he has shown a lot of promise in limited action so far. He didn't put up crazy stats, but he made the clutch throws when we needed them, I was most impressive with some of his audibles, which is something we have been lacking in a QB. I think he has to work on his touch and ball placement, like with the Nailor interception, he needs to get ball out in front of WR, he also needs more arc on some of his passes. I think he will master all that, biggest thing is staying on the field.

100% he's got things to work on. As you mention first and foremost: stay healthy, make incremental accuracy improvements. Work from there. Hit the layup passes, it'll make life easier for the offense.
