As we settle in for the torturous wait for one more week before (theoretically) seeing our young signal-caller, again, I was curious about how many starting QBs were injured this weekend.
Hmmm.
Burrow
Penix
Jackson
Daniels
Young
Now, we all expect that Joe Burrow will do something either stupid or random, and miss time each season. Lamar Jackson is almost miraculous in the number of games he has started, given his type of play. Penix had a thorough injury history before ever getting drafted, so this almost seems overdue. Jayden Daniels and Bryce Young are fellow young'uns, peers to our embattled QB, and they're both missing time.
The Browns' big-money QB and masseuse molester is still missing time from last season, though he's a long shot to ever start in the league again.
Kyler Murray and Brock Purdy also have missed time. Google says that 15 starting QBs have gotten injured to some degree this season, already.
While our young'un has barely stayed upright in his career so far, I'm wondering if the NFL is gonna need to start thinking in terms of baseball-style player rotations, even at the biggest positions....

Purdy has started two games all season...PRobably not playing today either
Mac Jones has been competent enough to keep the ship sailing and they are 5/2 as a result.
Back-up QB is something the Viking might want a re-do on. That was just a head-scratcher from the get-go and not a feather in the cap for KAM or frankly KOC

It sounds like both Darnold and Jones had offers, but wanted starter opportunities/cash. Hard to fault them.
The people that crucified this team for paying Kirk are many of the same ones having fits that we didn't spend huge backup money this season. It boggles the mind.
A whole lot of the grousing is coming from people that are claiming "hindsight insights", which are always laughable. Similarly, the people that just use every negative to fuel their "cursed" whinings will be in "TOLDJA!!" mode, while treating every success as "loss of draft position".
The team, hopefully, plays each week as the game of focus. I think that's a fine approach, overall.

IDK, I'm not really too miffed about Darnold/Jones. I just think spending the whole offseason getting Howell up to speed and then trading him and bringing in Wentz at the last second bit us in the ass as he had to start early in the year.

Was Wentz available early in the off season? And if so what was the price then?
Not to you but…
Sometimes people make statements forgetting the circumstances that existed when past decisions were made that’s why hindsight is 20-20.
Darnold and Jones wanted to be starters. As has been documented, JJ had progressed enough that they were comfortable with him starting and leaning on the defense and new O line. Since then.
- the Oline has been decimated with injuries
- the revolving door situation with the Oline has negatively affected the running game
- the defense (particularly the D line) has played below par. That was the unit that was supposed to help the young QB.
- these two are a bad situation for a young QB. Now add to the fact that JJ was hurt and you can see why we are where we are.
Yes every team has injuries but some injuries are more significant than others on how they affect a team. Just ask the Bengals or Ravens.
As frustrating as this season has been, we have to keep everything in context.
And then there is the schedule… Yikes!

I asked Chatgpt that, and Wentz was holding out for a starting/competing to start job and was looking for a salary that matched that ambition. There was no asking price available.
To be fair. I think it's more that we took a gamble that Wentz would have time to integrate into our offense and instead JJM got injured in week 2 and he had to start right away.
It'd be interesting to know how much it would have taken to sign him earlier in the offseason.

If Wentz thought some team was going to come calling with a starting job offer and a salary to match, he was living in dream land. Nobody was going to offer him that. He's 32, been a backup for the last 3 or 4 years and chances were better that he wouldn't be in the league this year. Wentz served his purpose though as a sacrificial lamb. KOC grossly misevaluated the backup spot trading for Sam Howell, investing all offseason in him before scrapping him a week before the season started and signing Wentz. I've had some mild concerns with KOC since he's been here, but this has been an awful year by him overall and in all facets
