Done with Darnold

It's overreaction week here after a loss.

Things I'll say that I'm confident in...

1) Darnold will NOT  be tagged by us.

a) He'll get paid by some team this off-season.

b) He's earned at least a Baker-level contract (with 2025 bump so probably 35-40 mil per year).

c) His contract will be large enough figure into the comp pick formula.

2) Kevin O'Connell is a good coach.

a) He's going to get a long extension.

b) It will slot in behind McVay, Shanahan, Harbaugh, etc. until he wins some playoff games.

3) JJ McCarthy will be our starting QB next year barring some bizarro stuff happening.  That was the plan and I don't see the Vikings deviating from it at this point.  They love the kid.

He wont get $50M which will negate him giving us a comp pick.  He's a high end backup.  $10M/yr.  Not a starter.

I dont see him getting the big deal that some had projected,  I can see a 1 year bridge/prove it type deal for maybe lower 1/3 starter money,  but I dont see anybody going multi year with guarantees and avg north of 35 like many were talking a couple weeks ago.

as the pressures of the season mounted, as the cameras pointed his way and the lights got brighter,  his results got worse,  he started taking more hits/sacks,  his passes started sailing,  he looked damn good for the first 1/3 of the season, but even though the wins continued to come,  it was apparent that his game was struggling IMO.
Why isn't Chuck Foreman in the Hall of Fame?

I hope Dimes likes it here and stays for at least 2025. Not sure what kind of contract it will take?

They better have a plan to upgrade the running game, especially if JJM is the starter. It will up his chances of success x3 if they do.

I really believe Sam (at one time) had a chance to secure some kind of extension here. That's most likely gone.

With 14 wins, sniffing the #1 seed, the Vikings had me believing maybe they found a way to be elite this year. They are not.
