KOC on D. Dimes

Lol, as if we didnt have enough to talk about re: the Vikings QB room!
============================================

The Vikings will discuss signing quarterback Daniel Jones to the active roster this week, O’Connell said, so he would factor into the 2026 compensatory draft pick formula should he leave via free agency in March.

Jones, cut by the Giants last month, has been on the practice squad since Nov. 29.

“Daniel’s been quietly behind the scenes putting in some phenomenal work,” O’Connell said. “More excited now ... just by what he’s shown us already.”

At long last the team that seemingly could never find “the QB” now has too many!? I’m not sure how to act …  Cool Angel

Getting him on the active roster for Sunday means eligibility for a draft pick if/when he bolts....
Let's beat the Lions and get that week of rest, Vikings! SKOL!!

Fairly astute move by the Vikings. At the time they signed him, I would say it wasn't likely the Vikings would bring back Sam. Now that it seems more likely, it seems LESS likely Jones will have a spot on the roster in 2025. Can we turn a late-season flyer into a 3rd round comp pick?

And is it only week 18 that matters? IOW, can we activate him week 18 for the comp qualifier then deactivate him again in the playoffs? That wasn't clear to me.

1 - agree if Sam re-signs here its most likely Dimes who's out with the room being Sam/JJM/A pulse

2 - I believe once he is on the active roster here is there for post-season too. Not 100% certain.

Probably sending Rypien to the practice squad would be the most straight forward move. I imagine if Darnold and Mullens are both out, we’d rather roll with Dimes anyway.

There’s probably also a handful of guys who’ve gotten very minimal snaps all year and could be cut and brought back if needed.

This was discussed in the days immediately following signing him to the PS. If he is active for at least one game, and then he signs somewhere else, we pick up a compensatory pick.
Just do it. What's the worst that could happen? Darnold gets hurt and Mullens goes in and Mullens gets hurt and Daniel Jones (instead of Rypien) is called upon to mop up?
We don't have many draft picks next spring. I'm certain that this is on Kwesi's radar this week.
