Don't get me going on "insurance" companies. omnipresent rate hikes, huge deductibles, claim denials as "act of God", or "prior condition" or "it was on a day ending in "Y"...

...We get the cheapest ish possible knowing full well they would never pay out, or if they miraculously did...pennies on the dollar.

My bad, guess I misinterpreted the chief of detectives statement:

"The shooter then walks toward the victim and continues to shoot. It appears that the gun malfunctions, as he clears the jam and begins to fire again," he said.

About 20 years ago my wife and I went back and forth with Cigna on a claim. They paid it after about six months of fighting with them. I told her that I bet they have it written in their staff manuals that if they decline a claim enough that "X" amount of people will just give up and pay it.

5 years later I went to work for a healthcare company and found out that this is exactly true.

MN insurance rates have been climbing at some of the highest % rates in the country...I am having this conversation annually with our insurance broker. He reps a bunch of different lines for us to select from.

This is due to all the roof and hail claims the last 3-5 years. Its damn near as bad as FL.

Our HO insurance DOUBLED after the Lahaina fire - We live in Kahului at the base of the West Maui Mountains - 45 minutes AWAY from Lahaina. If our home was within 1 mile of the ocean it would have doubled AGAIN. (We are about 1.3 miles) We are also required to have hurricane insurance, but only two or three companies left that provide it in Hawaii.

Every year it's a battle - Grab your ankles, you've just gotta take it in the thermal exhaust port

I work in a community mental health center in a state where Medicaid has been privatized. I dealt with the UHC shit show for 3 years before they were quietly asked to drop out as an MCO. Their refusal rates for in/out patient mental health treatment, substance abuse treatment and services such as home and community based services was appalling.

Beyond that their member services and case management teams repeatedly ignored clients and let people get to the level of illness totally avoidable if they'd just do there job. The story below is lengthy but shines a light on one of their many shady practices.

Also gives you and idea of how hard getting help is. Even when you want it, have the cash and a well to do supportive family.
