7 Rookie QBs starting on Sunday??
#1
It's possible that in the past, there have been that many rookie QBs starting on the same day during the season, but this seems a bit top-heavy as a stat.
And they don't all come from Power 5 conferences.

Will Levis (Kentucky) Tennesee Titans
Jaren Hall (BYU) Minnesota Vikings
Clayton Tune (Houston) Arizona Cardinals
C.J. Stroud (Ohio State) Houston Texans
Bryce Young (Alabama) Carolina Panthers
Aiden O'Connell (Purdue) Las Vegas Raiders
Tyson Bagent (Shepherd) Chicago Bears (unless Justin Fields miraculously recovers, but he is currently listed as doubtful)

And if he hadn't gotten hurt, Anthony Richardson would be starting for Indianapolis.  That would make 8.

This gives me three disconnected thoughts...
1) the active NFL rosters of incumbent starting QBs has been weak and flawed, allowing for these youngsters to step in during their rookie year
2) the training and caliber of this generation of college QBs across multiple
3) QB is a difficult position to play in the NFL, not only for the prospect of injury, but for the mental acuity required.

How rare is this?  Thoughts?

Even though the league does more to protect QBs than ever, they still get hurt a lot.  Olines aren't as good due to lack of practice time in camp and lack of continuity due to rules changes, and changes in the college game where OL prospects are born also contribute.

More QBs running or even being run first pass second contributes-guys are fair game once they take off like a rb.

There also aren't as many QBs who enter the league with sound pocket fundamentals as in the old days and this leads to bad play and shuffling low level starters to try to find competence.

The quality of QB play in the NFL has been dropping since the 80's & 90's even though the NFL has put a protective hedge around them.

Levis, Hall, Tune and Bangent are playing only because of injury. I think Stroud and Young starting is pretty typical, especially considering they were the #1 and #2 overall picks.

But I do agree that the NFL has a lot of not so awesome QBs. Even the ones who looked destined for greatness just last year (Lawrence, Allen, Herbert, Hurts, Purdy, Burrow) the shine has kinda worn off a little.

Herbert will blossom being coached by Harbaugh next year...

I suspect Burrow and Allen will bounce back.

I admire the honesty, but he opened himself up WAY too much on this one. He's gonna get so much shit on the field.

But speaking of these rookie unknowns, I was reading how Tyson Bangent's last opponent before facing the Vikings was the Colorado School of Mines, which is a tiny little engineering college right up the street. Nobody even knows it's there. Didn't even know they had a football team.

Just blows my mind he went from facing THAT defense, with local, too-small kids who were barely even standouts in their high schools, to facing an NFL defense run by Brian Flores with Danielle Freaking Hunter staring at him from across the line of scrimmage. LOL.

Colorado School of Mines is a fantastic engineering school. Top tier for putting out software engineers.
