When teams/players struggle it's always such a swirl as to where the primary culprit is. In the case of this years Vikings offense I think there's more than one issue.

The only ones who know for sure work in Eagan.

It's a multitude of issues. Number one is Zimmer, he needs to be gone. A modern offense and an offensive minded coach is needed. Shore up the OL and get creative play calling. Putting a first time play caller was probably Zimmer's only option because no one wants to be held back from being creative. I truly believe once he is gone the team can move forward. New minds and new ideas are needed on both sides of the ball.

My gut feeling is that if Cousins doesn’t 100% understand
the offense and what the defense is doing, you end up with games like we’ve
had.  So maybe we start strong in a game,
and then the defense adjusts in a way that we didn’t plan for, and Kirk stops
playing fast and starts thinking more about things.  I think maybe a better OC would be able to
predict the defensive adjustments better.

That said, I have no idea, just spitballing.  I like that people are investigating this though.
I disagree that a first time playcaller was Zimmer’s only
option.  I think it was a calculated
decision to provide the offense with more continuity, which is rare in the
Zimmer era.  If we would have picked up a
midlevel veteran OC and it took the Cousins and the offense 4 games to figure
it out, everyone would be bitching about how we should have went with the hot
young genius that some other team found.

I worry that no one in Eagan knows for sure.

Agree with you on the hiring. I'm sure they could have found some quality candidates but chose Klint because of continuity and familiarity...which is extremely frustrating.

Diggs would agree with the author. If Cousins had a tv show they could name it, short of the sticks!
