If they just bring a Carson Wentz type in then yeah, he must have carte blanche from the Wilfs.  Do whatever, you've got the job regardless of it keeps going sideways at QB.

But I don't think they have given him that.  I think they expect a playoff win in year 5 of KOC, where they made a big roster spend and were sold high expectations by the hc/gm, and for him like for all of us, self preservation is a much more powerful motivator than some altruistic desire to hopefully develop JJM.  He didn't wrest g.m. power away from the one guy who could insist that he stay the course with JJM because he wants to be stuck in that box.

Whoever they bring in at QB in the next couple of months will tell the tale.

I think one just has to look at their home and realize the correlation isn't too far off.

I don’t remember Drake Maye facing nearly this level of backlash last season or this past offseason.  Caleb Williams definitely caught heat, but the volume around McCarthy feels amplified.

Does McCarthy deserve some criticism?  Sure.  That comes with the position.  But the constant pitchforks and over-the-top rhetoric need to settle down.  He’s here, he’s going to get his opportunity, and development comes through consistent work, in the offseason and during the year.  He has the physical tools and competitive traits to become the kind of quarterback this fan base has been waiting for.

The bigger issue is the era we live in.  Instant gratification has been put on steroids by technology and nonstop media cycles.  Every throw is dissected. Every stat is weaponized. Patience is basically extinct.

And I get it, this fan base is tired.  Watching talented rosters come and go without a championship wears on people.  That frustration is real.  But sometimes growth takes time, especially at quarterback.

I’m betting this story isn’t finished and that patience will pay off sooner rather than later.
