Got rid of the ball quicker than other games. No INTs. A much needed outing for him AND the team. Nice to see, now he needs to build on it incrementally. I'd like to see some consistency develop as its just one game. Hopefully KOC has learned and tweaked something in his mentorship so JJ isn't overthinking constantly. Let him get a better grasp of a simplified offense, then expand incrementally. I remember watching Phillip Rivers in the Senior Bowl. To this day, the most impressive Senior Bowl performance I've ever seen. I thought if they could fix his Luis Tiant-like delivery, he could be one of the greats. To their credit, they left it alone. I think shelving JJ's mechanics until the offseason was a good move. JJ's best days are ahead of him. Almost forgotten in the shut out was the fact that the defense held Jayden Daniels to 78 yards passing through nearly 3 quarters. Daniels has been out for 3 games with a bum elbow and they rushed him back and reinjured it. That was not prime Daniels. Still has issues hitting the target in some scenarios, staring guys down, lacks pocket awareness. I don't know if he has a high NFL ceiling but he can make plays at times. It's the Commanders but I thought McCarthy's pocket awareness yesterday was pretty good. He's done much better lately at not taking sacks. RE: McCarthy needs a decent game today for obvious reasons - supafreak84 - 12-08-2025 Something Judd said on the podcast post-game yesterday was he was up in the press box and focusing on Jefferson when the Vikings had the ball. Stated there were several times where Jefferson beat his man and or was one on one and McCarthy didn't throw him the ball. Stated he went to his first read a majority of the time (which isn't surprising with his recent struggles) but that by NFL standards, Jefferson was about as open as it gets and McCarthy is going to have to see it and hit it to beat better football teams. It was baby steps yesterday and we'll see if it's something he can build on at Dallas RE: McCarthy needs a decent game today for obvious reasons - greediron - 12-08-2025 (12-08-2025, 11:40 AM)supafreak84 Wrote: Something Judd said on the podcast post-game yesterday was he was up in the press box and focusing on Jefferson when the Vikings had the ball. The 2nd TD to Oliver seemed like a 2nd or 3rd read. Addison was able to get some catches because of the coverage rolled to JJ... Local sports news last night was talking about Jefferson and they are CONVINCED he is fine as long as the team wins. Willing to help JJM learn along the way. I think yesterday was a nice step in his development, but its only 1 game and he has a long ways to go. I'm curious to see how he does at Dallas. Used his TEs, that was a nice step as well. Teams are obviously going to take away Jefferson, make JJ move to 2nd and 3rd options which he seemed to do yesterday. Seems like yesterday was the first time I saw it happen to a large degree... I suspect we'll see 3 TE's more often the rest of the year and I'll bet $$ now they draft one fairly high next draft too. We have some elite talent at WR and its up to coaches and players to connect the QB to them more frequently... That was a dumb move by Quinn imo...NO REASON whatsoever to rush him back in a lost season. Do you know how likely painful it is for OConnell to continue using multiple TE sets? It's not who he is or what he wants to do in any facet. Judd was saying this morning that he thinks no matter what happens the rest of the season, the decision has already been made that they will pursue a veteran starter this offseason who can run what OConnell wants to run, and McCarthy will be relegated to backup duty. Also speculated he could see the team pursuing Matthew Stafford if he doesn't retire after the season. But I dont think you're giving coach enough credit for being rational or enjoying winning...There is just no way JJM is ready for 3d chess and consistently making back shoulder throws downfield to tight coverage on WR's. I think KOC knows that and I think he's ok with it as long as the kid makes progress and the result is a winning locker room more often. Judd can speculate till he's blue in the face. I have no doubt they know they need to bring in vet talent at QB next year, but I have a real hard time believing they have already relegated JJM to back-up. Thats just silly. |
